I can't complain as I have a lovely friend at my DIY yard who I have the following arrangement with but my finances are straining.
Currently my friend has:
Full use of my lovely Fjord mare Gretel on a daily basis. She mucks her out, rides, turn out and brings in and grooms her. She can also take her to shows and fun rides etc.
I cover all costs - livery, full set of shoes, feed, haylage, insurance, vet, dentist, saddler, worming, new tack, rugs - everything.
In addition I pay her on a daily basis to:
Feed Dulciya, rug if necessary and turn out or bring in.
This is usually about £25 a week on top of all Dulciya's costs. Sometimes she mucks out for me and I pay extra for this - so for her to completely do Dulciya for a day would be £10.
Basically my OH thinks that I shouldn't be paying her to help out with Dulcie unless she is covering me for the day or we are away. She has her own horse as well but it has lots of issues and she adores Gretel.
She looks after the horses so well and adores them but it is costing me a fortune. I used to have a sharer for Gretel who contributed £80 a month towards her costs for unlimited riding. Now I am going to have to think seriously about giving up endurance and lessons etc on Dulciya as having two is a real strain on the purse strings.
Any advice??
PS Am also still trying to find somewhere suitable in Chobham, Surrey to keep them if anyone knows of anywhere...

I think you should chat to her about it and be honest... If she knows your situation she will prob offer to pay you towards Gretel without you asking... |

I agree with ladyB.... she obviously someone you trust and is very good with gretel... I'm sure if you explained things she would understand... |

Yes you're both right - it's difficult when someone is so brilliant but I find it difficult to justify having 2 horses as it is to my very understanding but sensible OH! |

have you thought about suggesting that she loans gretel and takes on her costs but conditional that she stays on the same yard as you?? |

I would trust her to loan Gretel but she definitely couldn't afford 2 horses unfortunately. |

minimum sharer fees are usually box rent-£30 a week. some people ask more if the horse is on full livery, or ask for half shoes etc, it all depends. I would ask for more if its for unlimited riding, but it depends on what you want/need from a sharer when I shared I paid £25 for 2 days and if the owner went away and I would do a whole week she would pay for the horse to be mucked out and I would just go and ride, but pay the same its SO difficult to find a good sharer though so well done with that one! |

My sharer contributes £20 per week to share Andre. She skips out, rides and does feeds/haynets 2 days per week, one week day and one w/e day.
I don't how she puts up with me to be honest as I have an OCD about my horse and everything has to be perfect . I think she thinks I'm a bit mad lol.
I wouldn't call her a sharer if you pay her to do your mucking out, I would just have a chat with her and see if she would like to share Gretel on a mopre formal bases. |
