I was sat watching tv about half an hour ago and I glanced out of the window and saw a figure stood there! They ducked down as I looked. Ive never been so scared. Normally my OH is here and he would have charged out after them. I crawled to the hall like a ninny and phoned my mum. Her OH came round but by that time whoever it was had gone. Im now wonering what they were after and if they will come back! My OH isn due back till 10pm.

Have you phoned the police? Tell them you are on your own and scared. I hope your police are better than our local ones. They'd come around in two weeks time to take a statement!! |

Ive rung the police but they cant do anything as I had no description. All I could see was a dark figure. Ive locked the doors and will sit upstairs on pc until OH gets home. I hate feeling like this though. It makes you feel so helpless. |

They are useless!! Tell them you fear for your life, they have to come! Or say you have a feeling your car tax has run out but you're too scared to go outside to look..... then they'll be round in a flash! |

Deboniks that made me . I now have a very large glass of wine to keep me company. I could also tell them that I have 2 bald tyres and a headlight out. That should do the trick! |

Make sure you have something sharp to hand, can you not ring your OH and make him aware of the situation. Nicky |

Hopefully it was just some idiot teenager trying to scare you, ridiculous the police wont even come round for a look about when you are on your own and frightened.
OH should be home soon, hope you ok. Might be an idea to record a good old German Shepherd barking session for times like this. That would shift any peeping toms.

I rung OH and he's driving back from Wales as fast as he dare. My dog would not be much use bless him. He's an 11 year old, half deaf and blind cocker. It was definately a person though. The view from my lounge window is into the back garden and there is nothing to obstruct the window normally. The garden is enclosed with a locked gate and 6ft drop at the rear. I think it was someone checking the house for occupants before breaking into the sheds. |

Once your OH is back home and you can discuss it, think about getting a halogen security light. It runs off the mains but whenever anything moves through the beam the bright light goes on. It'll deter anything (cats/people/foxes) creeping around. Hope it hasn't shaken you too much. Chin up! If you don't have something extraordinary to steal, it's unlikely anyone is targetting your or your home. |

I certainly get security lights fitted I do hope all is OK, I know how scary this is, we had three guys round by the stables one night, OH saw them as he drove back from the local shop and took off after them lost the buggers on the back roads we now have security lights and a camera covering the yard, anything moves and I can see straight away, gives me a bit of peace of mind, gets annoying when it's one of the local cats, but if anyone is out there they can argue with my rottie |

We have cameras at the stables, but not at home. The cameras are linked to a moniter that we can watch from the stable block. Very useful if the dogs bark and we're not sure who's about. Also can keep a very close eye on the main gate, so can see who's entering the premises. Puts the wind up people when you go out to meet them and tell them that we knew they were there cos they'd been caught on camera. Lots of security lights as well. 10 dogs of various sizes barking puts the fear of christ up people as well. I know them, but wouldn't want to argue with them, at least not with the biggest of them. Hope all ok with you now. Is the OH back yet? |

I hope OH is home and you are feeling safe.
I remember a few years ago my friend, who shows Newfoundlands had a very scary experience but it turned out more scary for the intruders. She lives in a lodge house which is very rural and has a driveway that runs all the way up to the big house. Her OH works off shore and was away at the time. I am always nagging her that when he is away she should always have a dog in the house.
This particular night she had Gina in the house who was sleeping on the wooden floor of her bedroom. All of a sudden Gina started to do the low pitch growl thing Newfies do and went off to patrol the whole house(usually she would settle once she checked all the rooms) but this night she was getting more agitated. My friend decided she needed to go outside and look, put a lead on Gina and went out. There were 2 guys staggering about the garden in a drug/drink stupour, they were off their heads on something. Gina went bananas and stood up on her back legs in the darkness, because my friend is tiny she looked even more enormous. The intruders could only hear growling and see teeth at about 6 feet high.
A very amusing(afterwards) rant came from the guys" What the f*+* is that Mrs, looks like a f****** bear, oh my god we are going, dont let it go,what the hell is that thing?"
Turned out they were trying to take a shortcut in a car(neither should have been driving) and they ran it off the road.
Needless to say they didnt come back, poor old Gina died a couple of years ago but that story still makes us all smile.

Hi all Thankyou for keeping me company last night. It was pretty scary but I feel ok now. My OH is going to put a very bright security light up so hopefully it will blind the ba****ds!!! I feel more angry than scared now. How can someone have the nerve to intrude on my property with the intent to steal or cause damage! |

Hi
Many years ago we had a peeping tom, he had frequented the property for years as the previous owner (my sister inlaw) has seen him peeping through the bathroom window, anyway we could never catch him although we saw his shadow many times, husband chased him for miles on one occasion but lost him in a road full of allotments, the police said that even if we had caught him they could not do alot only tell him off basically, so we moved, the guy that bought the place was a batchelor so I guess he did not have alot to peep at then.
There's some odd people on this planet.
