My daughters new pony arrives on 22nd December (for Christmas - aah!)all being well. We are having a complete departure having always had welsh ponies and recently a welsh worker! I'm confused as to the Anglo - Part Bred Arab specification etc. I've checked our new ponies all breed pedigree and I think that she is part bred - can anyone help?
Also can anyone help re: best qual shows for RIHS and Cherif etc we are based in the North West (Peak District)

Congratulations - you will have lots of fun, I am sure... and also LOTS of plaiting, pulling and endless reapplication of quartermarks - purebreds and natives DO mean an extra half hour in bed The North Wales Reg Group has a Spring show on April 5th - usual classes for your partbred IH (Ian Woodward) and rid (Anne Leaver) including junior riders and cherif qual. Easy to reach off A55 - you can mail us on northwalesahs@hotmail.co.uk and we will be sure to send some schedules your way!! Super venue and great 'early run' for those of us who only show part season |

Welcome Sharon
What a beautifully bred pony Emilia is, and I wish you every success with her. She is Part-bred Arab.
An Anglo is a cross between Arab and thoroughbred bloodlines only, and further crosses between those lines.
Part-bred must contain the minimum of 12.50% arab blood, in order to be registered.
The Cherif qualifying show list will be on this site very soon, on the Anglo and Part-bred section and also the Events section. If you have any questions - fire away.

At a rough guess your pony is approx 19% arab. She has a very high percentage of thoroughbred and some welsh pony. She has some Shagya arab in her pedigree though and not sure if this will be counted without their full pedigrees. |

Shagyas are proper arabs, but on your ponies pedigree it says 'shagya arab' and not the names of the actual arabs in question. Thats why I said I'm not sure if they count. Even so, it won't affect her percentage by very much. |

There's quite a bit about the Shagya Arabs on the Tracing Horses, under Pedigrees, Look at BASA (Shagya - XVII - 3) 26/1/1931. Your pony has Shabourne April Love, in her pedigree and she was by The Shalbourne Shagya Arab, Shagya Basa-1945, a proper shagya arab, who was by Henry Wynmalens BASA- 1931 & also know as Basa (Shagya XVII-3),they are not pure arabs, but were crossed with all sorts of other horses in the early days, including Lipizzaners, Thoroubreds & Warmbloods & they were used as remounts. You might find this posting of interest regarding the Shagya line.It goes back to 1798, & Espagnola(Spanish), O Bejan 1855 & Tajar 1811. Henry's horse Basa born in 1931, was brought to Britain by an army officer, when his breeder Count Esterhazy of Babolna died, the officer had to sell this horse when he was posted back abroad and Henry bought the horse, BASA 1931, was unbeaten in the show ring with Henry up. there are some lovely pictures of him on this posting & one of his famous sons Bascar.
I also had a lovely 14.2h mare that's sire was by Henry's horse, she bred me a lovely riding pony who was by Solway North Wind. Sue. BASA 1931 (Shagya XVII-3)& Unbeaten in the show ring. |

I keep mine on my friends farm on the Greave side of Werneth Low
Rozy Rider - Thanks so much - I love all this information!!
In a part-bred Arab class is turn-out just as I would turn them (pony and daughter) out for a Show Pony class? |

Hi
Yes - Turnout for Partbreds is "to Type!" so if your pony is a show pony then you turn it out as such, if it was Hunter pony then likewise. (if that makes sence!)
Is your new pony under or over 14.2? if it is over then you should be aware that the judge will ride at qualifiers, if it is under then (a small) Judge will ride at the Cherif Finals. - Worth knowing so you can make sure your saddle is big enough for an adult bottom.
The Stafford Group is a good one (I would say that - i am on the committee!) - used to be Stafford & North Derbyshire so it is really our local group!
have a look at the website www.northstaffsarab.com
Please shout if you have anymore questions - I am sure we will be able to point you in the right direction.
Have you any photos you could post of your new pony? |

I'd say she was bred to be a Riding Pony and the part bred classed would just be for fun. Good Luck for 2008. |
