Hi there
Im having a severe memory blank. Unfortuneately Pat is no longer with us but she had some amazing horses in her time. I only knew her in her later years when she had her old palamino stallion, stable name James, but i remember reading all about him and believe he was very famous i just cant remember his proper name! I know she was also involved with Theobalds Flying Colours but i just cant remember the details and i want to say Radfan but not sure thats correct either!
A trophy in her memory is presented at Malvern each year.
Any info much appriciated

I think you are pretty spot-on emma. Pat Marriot definitely had a palomino stallion with the stable name "James". I don't know his show name either.
Theobalds Flying Colours (stable name Knocky, 8 times BNC) and Radfan (BNC in-hand and under saddle) also stood at the same stud as James. If I dig really hard into my memory, I feel that James could have been sired by Radfan, purely because I am sure Radfan sired some Palominos.
I am in touch with Pat's good friends, who were the owners of Knocky and Radfan and I can find out more details if anyone is interested. Just let me know the questions!!!

James' show name was Golden Image. The trophy presented at the Nationals was donated by Pat's many friends and collegues.

Edited to add. Golden Image (James) by Radfan out of Miradore. Hope this helps jog the memory!!! |

Hi James's name was Guncite Golden Image and was sired by Radfan x Miradore (Pats beloved mare) dam of many other lovely palaminos Colours was by Dolychos x Susie Kay and also stood at the stud which is now owned by George Michaels father, where he has his thoroughbred horses. Pat passed away some years ago much loved and sadly missed Sue |

Hi
Thanks for all that, i was a livery at Pinnerwood where she lived. I then got my first horse of my own an anglo mare and the rest as they say is history! Pat knew so much about everything horsey she was fascinating to listen to. I used to love watching James his coat colour was just stunning. Id love to see any photos if anyone comes across any of any of her horses.
Thanks alot for your help.
Tahir- i think we are fairly local to each other, in in Fulmer Bucks now, where abouts are you? |

I was just looking into Radfan's progeny and it looks like he sired quite a few in Belgium between 1979-1990 is that right? Did he go over there for a period of time and then come back to the UK? |

Emma, Hi. I am near Ware in Hertfordshire, so not too far away. I think pleasures also liveried or worked at Gunsite/Pinnerwood, but I am sure she will correct me.
Radfan did spend some time in Belgium with his lifetime owner Eileen. Some of my mares are related to Radfan, and my current stallion is actually owned by Eileen.

Hi there , As luck would have it & because i seem to hoard everything i have kept this article on the Gunsite Stud from a 1982 Horse & pony magazine ! In the article Pat says that she bred 4 foals from Radfan & that he was now in Belgium. Sorry the pics are looking a bit creased but they are 25yrs old !

This topic brings back many poingnant memories too many to mention from the 1970's onwards I am a bit teary at the mo Pat was a treasured friend for many years from foaling mares to rebuilding gear boxes. Those that knew her well will know what I mean. She was a one off and I learnt so much from her. One saying that stuck forever in my mind was when a mare was due to foal she would come rushing in and say in her excitement, "it wont be long now she's got a really red VOLVO", Bless you Pat rest in Peace. Pat was certainly an endearing character, and so much fun.
I have a photo of Radfan at his 21st Birthday Party, not the best pic of him, but the only one I can find.
I also have a grand-daughter of his, Darmouna (Sheikh Darmoud x Dancing Dajeela by Radfan out of Bint Ludoet):
Natntaz, who posts on here has a Radfan son, Tariq ibn Radfan:

Great photos so lovely to see such quality horses. And you learn something new every day- i never knew Eileen went to Belgium! Do Eileen and Viv have many horses now? I remember them showing a filly some years ago now at malvern when i was there with Pat, infact it was the year Lyanka (Ryan Jones' filly) won as a yearling.
And Sue yes you are right about Pat, she taught me so much and was never wrong. She said my anglo mare (Blue Madrigal x Honey Lady) who is chesnut was the right chesnut to breed palaminos, something ive not tested as yet! |

I have the pleasure of having Viv & Eileen's stallion, Taj el Nil, on a long term lease. They have 5 horses at home at the moment: Dancing Darjeela (Radfan x Bint Ludoet), Crystal Lazuli (Crystal Magician x Bint Ludoet), Fajala (Taj el Nil x Bint Farida), and two of Fajala's gelded son's by Psynergy. This is the first time for many, many years that they don't stand a stallion at stud between them, and they are enjoying a well-earned rest.
Eileen rides Crystal Lazuli for pleasure, Dancing Dajeela is retired, Fajala is having a rest from breeding after having produced 3 lovely foals - one of them being Psyonara, a winner twice at the Nationals. So they are still very much "involved", but are taking more of a "back-seat".
We are frequently in touch by phone and the occasional visit, I will remember you to them.

Yes i remember Psyonara she did very well,. infact she was for sale on her last year, wonder where she ended up? I dont know them personally, only met them a couple of times when at shows with Pat or the Angolds when i was probably about 14/16yrs, but heard all about their horses via Pat! |

OMG Sarah - that brings back memories. I remember that issue of Horse and Pony magazine. They used to put features in of the BPS nationals and that was when I first fell in love with palominos. I particularly remember stunning pictures of Gunsite Golden Image, Zalaman and Clouds of Gold but also that one of Ashby Royal Imp.
Happy memories. Whatever happened to Clouds of Gold? Debs |

Oooops, forgot to say that "Knocky" (Theobalds Flying Colours) is the grand-sire of Rach1's superb gelding Ottoman, bred by Viv, and ridden to many, many championships under the loving care of Rach1. Ottoman is by Ottergayle out of Desert Colours (Theobalds Flying Colours x Bint Ludoet). IMHO Ottoman is the carbon copy of "Knocky" in his prime.
I believe that Rach is also the proud owner of Otto's younger brother.

I keep reading this little ongoing thread and all I can think about now is What would Pat say if she knew she was the object of such admiration, her ciggy would be in the corner of her mouth and she would be brushing off all the compliments in her usual self effacing way , but would secretly be chuffed to bits over the whole thing LOL Sue |
