Should we have him collected - would anyone be interested in him & his lines if we did??? http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/rameed ????? Don't suppose we will as he will be 20 next year & we live in the sticks!! But would be a shame to loose his lines?!

Misery was a mare, and I had the pleasure to see her in her old age at Harwood - she certainly was not a misery |

I think the best way is to weigh up the pros & cons. I would love to use him in the future but my one promise isn't enough of a reason to spent lots of money. If you think you may like to use him over your own mares in the future then that is probably a better reason for doing it and if there is a little spare for other interested parties wey hey Rearranging my ready meals as we speak |

If you can afford to do it, given the collection costs, storage and the AHS annual fees, then it would preserve the bloodlines for the future. At his age though his sperm may not be of good quality, this can affect younger stallions as well, so getting this checked would be your first step.
Twemlows recommended a feed high I think in Vit E which I believe is good for reproductive fertility. May check these things out myself! |

Judith you should contact Jane Kadri she has just had Narim and Spearmint collected and would be able to give you up to date costs etc. Now they are both elderly gentlemen but you wouldn't think so by the quality of their semen So don't let age put you off
We had Toman collected a couple of years ago and that was approx £1500 - storing of semen is about £200 per year and of course the AHS take £100 for an AI licence for the years you use frozen semen.
I don't know how many years you are able to store and use after the horses death, so that's another thing to consider. |

Hi Jude
Thanks for the info! Probably too expensive for us to do - for an unfashionable stallion Have two of our mares infoal to him for next year - so keeping everything crossed |

Gorgeous! As I said before why are you so far away. He would suit both my girls but OH is determined that we have no more foals. I am sure I shall get him to change his mind eventually. |

Just snapped this very unflatering photo of himself.......I'm standing below him - he says his tummy isn't that big - honest He's in shaggy mountain pony winter mode - Rameed - otherwise know as Mr Fluffy He's got his winter coat on as he lives out all year unrugged (does have a field shelter- hides in it if it rains)

I quite agree Bia - anytime now looking at the state of the belly He really isn't that bad in the flesh - but the field he is on at the moment is very steep & I have to photo him standing below him & he always looks funny Also he has a lovely thick winter coat which does make him look like one of the Welsh ponies that live on the hills by our farm.............now thats a thought - we have hill grazing rights for sheep & ponies.........wonder if he would fancy the winter out on the hills NOT I think - he does like his field shelter & dashes for cover at the first spot of rain |

OH has just seen the photo of Mr Fluffy.....& says he will take a more flattering one
Watching him trot in for his tea today - the belly didn't look as bad - must have been holding it in |

I agree.. he's really fabulous with all the hair and a "fuel-tank"!!
I remember one year when my oldie (22-23y/o I think?) was so skinny.. so I had to put a blanket on and hide him from the neighbors!! It was in the summer.. but he couldn't get any belly from grazing.. and all 4-times bucket-feeding that year! The next year he looked just like Rameed, a lovely big belly and also a 'filled' and muscular (sp?) body!
Be happy Judith, just as Rameed is!

Claire - he looks very different from when you saw him back in the summer!! He certainly has a lush winter coat & I love the fuel tank instead of saying tummy!!
Today while I was poo-picking his feild shelter he came to say hello & standing on the flat he looked far better than the last photo
Bia - we are all happy here He has to work hard on the field he is on at the moment - its VERY steep - no flat bits - so he is quite fit & yes his muscles are hard.........when you can find then under his winter coat He's such a happy, nice fellow |
