I'm not sure if this is the right page to post this on?
I am a member of Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norwich, in their newsletter which came out today they have a lovely article on an Arab Gelding called Deskannt who had been donated to the Sanctuary by his last owner. It seems Deskannt had four owners in his seven years of age and had dreadful psychological problems which the sanctuary have helped him overcome. He has a home for life with them now.
I don't know who owned him last but I would like to say a huge thanks to that person for letting him go to Hillside. Not that they want them! but they won't turn anyone away. They have 170 horses now. The picture of him in the newsletter he looks happy and in lovely condition.
I'm sure this won't be seen as promoting anything,
the web is www.hillside.org.uk

I don't live too far from the sanctuary. I was hoping to go and visit but they are closed until further notice due to foot and mouth....
I will keep an eye out for Deskannt, when I do get to visit.

Lisa that would be lovely. I think this is their first arab and he has made quite an impression. They had an equine relationship worker in from the USA to help this poor chap. It's not a case of feed them and leave them, they make sure all needs are attended to. |

To be honest, I didn't realise that they took in so many animals
I do know that they are on the local news quite a bit with their under cover filming. They reported on the cruelty that goes on behind doors on turkey, chicken and duck farms. Bernard Matthew's workers got some very bad press
Poor Deskannt, sounds like he has had a tough time of it. I'm so glad that he has found a permanent home with them.

How awful that this poor lad has had FOUR homes and at just seven years old. I looked up his breeding http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/deskannt
perhaps someone knows of his previous homes and could help with what has happened to the poor chap in the meantime.
He is one of the lucky ones that is now being looked after for the rest of his life. |

I remember seeing Deskannt advertised somewhere last year for £700. He had an ' issue' about being sat on. Someone had recently bought him and tried turning him around and was looking for a caring home at a knock down price because of his issues. Obviously he hasn't got over the problems.he looked a lovely horse too. |

Thanks to admin for putting this on the right page.
I wanted to bring to everyones attention that Hillside Sanctury has 170 horses to care for. Please think of them when you want a good cause to donate to. |

I remeber a lot about him, he was in Stanstead near me, then sold on behalf of a dealer to another lady. I spoke to that lady a number of times and then she sold him to another women who was posting pictures and threads on how she was riding him and doing very well. Its a shame it has come to this with him but jolly good of her for doing so and not pawning him in for what she can get. Just a shame things didnt work out |

Hi, I am the last owner of Deskannt. Although I am so pleased to have given him to Hillside, it really saddened me. I had Des for a fair while and although it says he had 4 homes in 7 years they were only the ones recorded. It was at least 6. Myself and a friend bought Des and we did have a challenge, he was good to handle eventually but he did have terrible panic attacks. We overcame 60% of them really and did break him in as a 7year old but unfortunately 3 out of 4 rides he was having a panic and going quite crazy. After a few months of riding him we decided that enough was enough and someone could of got hurt. Hillside is only down the road from me and I used to work there a few years ago. It is an absolutely amazing place and the animals are so looked after, it is like a big family. Des is so happy there and has paired up really well with some mates. I have seen and he looks really well. He is such a dear horse and his life really deserved a happy ending, thanks to Hillside :-) |

Some people Bunney would have tried to sell him on again just to pocket some cash, well done to you for saving him and saving his mental state. You will have some good luck come to you now.... Karma. |

Hi Bunney,
I also wanted to say that I think you did a wonderful act for Des. Like Sue said, some would think about the money and want to recoup it.
So glad he has settled in and made friends. Now he can relax and enjoy life, thanks to you |

Well done Bunney, it sounds like you tried really hard to sort out Des's problems, it's so sad that his issues were obviously so deep rooted that he couldn't over come them. What a lovely thing to do to give him to Hillside and how nice of Hillside to give him a home.
Hillside do really good work, they've even offered to give a home to my friends rescued cow!
