Lynda......perhaps you could e.mail your pictures to the Donkey Sanctuary and International League for Protection of Donkeys. They should also be doing something. I had a pal a few years ago who worked at the Donkey Sanctuary and she had it on good authority that everytime the post came the sanctuary was thousands better off, perhaps thats how they managed to buy up most of the farmland in that part of Devon. They are a wealthy organisation though and Im sure they would be interested in the plight of these donks. I have a soft spot for donks as does Rozyrider........I know she got involved with some welfare work in Greece. Im off to read the Brook website to see if I can get enough material together to do a stand for the local Indoor table top sales that run through the winter round here. |

Yes it does break your heart. Let's all donate as much as we can and keep thinking about it and donate again and again. The money we give really helps so much. If they were in our country I know we would all be taking them in and getting them happy but we can't so the next best thing is send them wonga! |

Very angry! other good idea if some of us arrange more regular pleasure rides(fun rides)in different areas which every people pays £10 each horse to enjoy rides which there around 200 horses/riders go regular in my area in spring-autumn,also do horsey car boots sales, that way all money goes to brooke hostipal and other charity help save the horses to stop go for meat.Wish we knew more people out there(who own lot of lands) who can help take in horses regular to get them better to rehome them which the money from sale go onto pay for other rescue horses so go on i do rescue horses whenever i see or hear of one that need to be saved |

Lynda,
I think you must be a very strong person to take the photo and to also let the owner of the other horse know what you think. While travelling the world i have seen some awful acts of cruelty and must admit i have turned and walked away because i felt there was nothing i could do
I have to say that while i was in Egypt i was quite impressed with the condition of the horses, i wonder if things have gone downhill lately for some reason.
I also donate monthly to Brooke but would like to do more, i would definatley be up for raising money for them but dont have many ideas Michelle |

Well done Lynda for posting those awful pictures and for writing your articles that I'm sure will bring the Brooke's work to the attention of many people. I found the hospital to be very inspirational after seeing all those poor horses and donkeys out on the streets, a real haven as are the water troughs dotted around the cities. I've bequeathed money in my will for them and took some medicines and various bits and pieces out on one of my visits. If anyone is going to Egypt, Jordan or India it can be helpful to give their office a quick ring and see if they need anything taking out as it saves on postage etc.
My friend bought me a mare and foal charity present for Christmas last year, which is basically a kit that goes to an owner to help with the foaling and pays for the foal for a year (if I remember rightly). They do lovely Christmas cards and calendars etc as well.

Lynda well done for bringing this to people's attention! I have to send or give Christmas cards to work contacts but there's no reason why I can't send Brooke ones!! It is a dreadful thing that some people don't have any empathy with animals and can neglect them without any conscience. We will all do what we can; your post is a very good reminder that the extremes are VERY extreme! Whenever will this world start being thoughtful, having compassion and using some common sense about the living 'machines' they use. Education, education, education... |

Well Ive been meaning to have a clear out for a while - I am going to list my items on here and some on ebay and I can either send the money they raise to you Lyndilou or direct to Brooke? I have a few rugs that Max has grown out of and a foal rug that was only used a couple of times (got it somehwere, but not seen it for a while) theres all sorts just gathering dust, it may as well be sold and hopefully help these poor suffering animals.
Are you going to do a collection Lyndilou or should I just send it direct?

Just a thought, there is 'the other' web site, that has a forum can you post the same stuff on there, there seems of be plenty of money floating round that one by the prices they are asking for their horses. Maybe a source of further donations, snowball effect. The first show I organized, a volunteer from the Brooke came and had a stand, brought a video and had it running all day in the saddlery shop at the venue.
I hope that led to some donations for them.

Terrible
I always give to Brooke Animal hospital at Malvern but looks like another donation is going there way from me aswell as the ILPH.
My lad was in last night after having yet another lovely day out in the sunshine, he was rugged up, had a feed, haynet full of hay and bedding up to his belly, an absolute shame that some poor horses, ponies and donkey's arent the same.

Lynda, when I went with a group of Arab horse enthusiasts to Jordon in 1988, My husband and I couldn't bring ourselves to get on the horses provided to take us down to Petra, so we paid the lads to not let anyone else ride. And they didn't look as bad as the photos you have provided here. Well done for the highlight! |

Hi,
Horrific pictures, they make me really angry though. These poor animals who are worked to death by people that couldn't care less about them and then cast aside. I would have spoken up too Lynda so good for you ( though I might have been arrested)
I have approached owners of carriage horses, I use the term loosely, on many occassion in several countries. I have spoken to them about dehydration, injuries, ill fitting tack and lameness. Then I come home from holiday more distressed and upset than before I went, I dont go to these places twice.
Good luck with your article.
