I am fed up getting soaked to the skin and would be grateful if someone could recommend a good waterproof jacket that wont break the bank.
I am always careful not to wash mine in anything biological and dont use conditioner yet they still leak. The latest culprit is my lovely Caldene I had for Christmas. I prefer a lightweight jacket that I can use all year round (layered with winter warmers when necessary)

Sandie - I've got a high-viz jacket from Millets that is very good...cheap & cheerful - its lightweight, waterproof & breathable - buy large enough so you can layer underneath for warmth. Its comfy to ride in.
If you want to spend more then look at the Blaithwait jacket from Equisafety - high-viz, fleece lined, waterproof & breathable - I've one & its been very good (several years old now).

I've got a Galashiels jacket from PortWest, available in work clothing supply shops and on the Internet and it cost about £20. It's very lightweight (mesh lining only), wasterproof and has lasted for about 4 years, winter and summer. It's a longer length, too, which keeps even more rain off!
Work wear shop are great for cheap and cheerful waterproof jackets and trousers. |

Hi
My jackets havent been holding up and went and bought a new one last week. There are so many lovely jackets out there but i was sensible to buy the one that would hold up to this appauling rain. I got a Reggata nice and reasonable in price but will definatly do its job |

I'm still waiting for a call back from them, but www.hertfordhorsebits.co.uk have some very cheap Mountain Horse jackets for sale. Worth giving them a call rather than trying to order from their website as I don't think the website works that well but might be worth a look? I'll let you know how I get on with them when I hear back from them! |

Both Toggi and Horseware leak, so can't recommend. Among the cheaper ones Just Togs are good, I've had several of theirs with no leaks at all. |

I'd second the light weight high viz one from Millets, shower proof, wind proof, breathable, started a bit of craze on them around here, several of the girls have them now, Val testing hers at the red dargon.. designed for bikers I think and to date have never washed mine, bought it a size smaller to keep it off the back of the saddle and the arms just fit with gripper at the cuff, its the shorter sort anyway and if we get wet it dryes out quick, and does'nt come through. If its raining to go out I just wear a vest to keep an air flow...Its Millets usual brand comes in lots of colours, the yellow ones are usually out the back. cost under £30, I bought one in the sale for £19.99.

Had a look at the galashiels online and quite impressed. Herefordhorsebits is a site I use but wasnt sure which is the best brand to stay waterproof. Off to Millets now to suss out the hi viz variety.
How do you all wash yours?? Non bio I assume and I have heard fabric conditioner is a no no???

In milletts there is a solution can wash waterproof clothing in and it keeps it waterproof, cant think of name now but you use it instead of wash powder there is the wash stuff and proofer too, there is always bottles of this stuff all over in milletts shops so you wont miss it |

Well my milletts one is still waterproof after about 3 & a half years, although todate I have never washed it, just spong off any dirty marks..better to be a bit gruby than let in water, ment to add the raglan sleeves are a good feature for riding..found plenty more pic if anyone wants a better look at the jacket. Judith..Very Soon... Sue |

Would love a better look Sue,especially how long it is. Does it have a 2 way zip (thinking of riding) totally agree with sponging off, although I am a bit of a chatty ***!! Can see me off to Milletts this weekend. |
