I was positive that big picture was T E Lawrence, but I've just spotted a picture in the back of my Asil Arabians of a chap called Carl R Raswan and it's him#! So who is he I ask? Apparently he was a German who lived on the Arabian peninsula for many years and did much for the Arabian horse. Well I never, you learn something new every day !

Carl Raswan ended up in Brazil I believe. Many years ago (shows my age) I read a book about his adventures in Arabia. It was spell binding but I cannot for the life of me remember the name. T>E> Lawrence is a distant relative of mine and my aunt is the spitting image of him. My OH says that this is where I get my love of the Arab. |

Yes you are both right***** it is Carl Raswan. The story as told by Bazy is that Mr Kellogg sent the then Carl Schmidt, to Crabbet to buy horses for him. whilst there ,lady Wentworth (who admired Schmidt) gave as a gift two stallions by skowronek, one for Kellogg and one for Schmidt the latter being *Raswan. almost immediately there was controversy over ownership of *Raswan, as Kellogg claimed Schmidt had accepted the gifts on behalf of Kellogg as an agent. Anyway Schmit tried to take the stallion forceably from the kellogg ranch and the horse was seriously injured and had to be distroyed. from that moment on Carl changed his name to Raswan, saying from now on everything I do shall be in his name. ahh bless now I really must do some WORK |

I had to laugh at something said by a well known breeder in days gone by, when they said, "for horse breeders , the most dangerous years are 3 to 7 years, because they think they know all there is to know, then from 7 years to 10 years they realise they dont know enough, then from 10 to 20 years they realise they will NEVER know enough, how very true |

I know who that last mare is Lynda, but I'll let Nicky to answer! I have a nice painting plate on the wall here, showing her most famous son.. he is beautiful! This mare is in the pedigree of some of my (former) horses, you can see two descendants in my 'sig pics', Mahfouz and Gishindi (both are bay)!!
Nicky, you can find her easily!

Nicky please dont feel under any pressure , its just a bit of fun and it gets you up and learning about the horses in your pedigrees's, we all love to see horses in our pedigrees's that are not around anymore, but that helped to make up the horse that stands before you today. I am always full of awe when I look at mine and realise the the horse standing in my field is the culmination of all these wonderful horses and their history. I think without knowing their ansestory we are missing out on the full picture |

Talking of *Raswan, I have been reading about him in the kellogg book I have ,as I was interested to read what was said about the Carl Schmidt saga, very little was said except Raswans untimely death was due to poor judgement in handling so two different stories about his demise! I wonder if there is anybody who really knows what happened to him? all I do know is that he died before he covered any horses in the USA! does anyone have him in their pedigree? he had sired two foals in the UK one of which was Ferhan, sire of Indian Gold the other was "Rose of france" who I think was bought by Bazy Tankersley for the Al Marah stud. Here is a picture taken from the Kellogg book, of *Raswan, this could also be Carl Raswan as he used to go about all the time in Arab costume (although the book does'nt say) opps not a good copy! |

I think that the ridden horse is Count Dorsaz, and if so, this must be at White City having won the Winston Churcill trophy for the best ridden exhibit. I believe the rider to be Jane McHugh nee Kent. |

Raswan also produced Star Of The Hills 1927 (exp. to Russia 1936). Yes, my new mare Majidah has four crosses to Raswan trough Gleaming Gold by Indian Gold!
