Hi all
Have tried searching for more info on my old lad before but thought id give it one more attempt...
So, im looking for anyone that met or has info on a horse who was registered as Dancing Midnight Star(his stable name was Solomon when I got him):
Dam: Dance of the Hours (Dargeel x Glass Slipper) Sire: Swashbuckler (Romac x Ormeena)
He very sadly had to be put to sleep last year due to cushings disease so id love to know if anyone could tell me anything about the time before I had him. He was chestnut, 15hh, with a star and a stripe. He also had two white socks on his back legs. He's the ridden arab in my photos below.
Any info would be much appreciated as he was absolutely wonderful and I miss him loads,
Laura x

If it helps at all he was bred by 'Miss L Brooks' in 1986- I'd love to hear if anyone knew of any of his relatives too!
Cheers

Hi, never met your boy I'm afraid but I can tell you a little about his relatives. He was 100% Crabbet/Old English - his sire Swashbuckler only had 8 foals, only 2 had foals themselves and nothing appears to be breeding on right now. But Swashbuckler's sire Romac was a very successful Straight Crabbet stallion who sired gorgeous horses for a number of breeders and ended his days with Daphne Cockssedge of Romac Stud in Wales. Daphne is still breeding from some of her Romac descendants - there is a big feature on her stud in the current Crabbet Journal with details of some of the successful race and endurance horses descended from Romac. Your boy's dam had 3 good stallion sons and one of them has progeny that are still young enough that they may breed on. Hope this helps a little. |

Hi athena- really appreciate your post!
Just to make sure im understanding it right- do you mean Swashbuckler was 100% crabbet/old english? I thought my lad had quite alot of crabbet in him but get a bit confused with it to be honest!
Would you know if his dam is crabbet too?
Really interested to hear about the Romac stud so il definitely be having a look!

Yes, your boy was 100% Crabbet/Old English as both sire and dam were also. Tail female line to the prolific Crabbet Rodania family via the important broodmare Razina. His most important Old English lines were to the bahreini mare Nuhra with the Nuhra line sire Darjeel appearing in the pedigree of both Swashbuckler and Dance of the Hours. Crabbet /Old English horses are invariably high percentage Crabbet and your boy was probably around the 90% mark as a guestimate. Glad to help. |

Hi Laura, I knew Swashbuckler quite well and had the pleasure of riding him. I also had a son by him called El Muntse, unfortunatly he died last year, but I have his son Blue Fuego. Swashbuckler was kept at Strines Farm and then sold to some people to bred Anglo's. Swashy was shown in hand, raced and did ridden classes. I have some photo's of him somewhere, I shall try and dig them out tonight. He was a liver cheshnut and had the most amazing movement. I am sure I know Dance of the Hours as well, do you know what her pet name was?

Hi Wurzel
Im so pleased you've been able to tell me this!As you can probably tell from my reaction I loved him to bits so its great to hear more info! I'd heard that Swashbuckler did a bit of showing but didnt know what type and its lovely to hear that you rode him!His movement sounds incredible- really interesting as Solomon had a trot to die for- maybe this was where he got it from? It's really nice too to hear that you used to own one of Sol's half brothers- El Muntse, strange how they both died last year- really sorry for your loss -i'd have loved to have met him. But lovely that you've still got his son blue Fuego. Out of interest were they both chestnuts as well?
As for Dance of the Hours I dont know her pet name sorry- I managed to get in touch with Miss L Brooks who bred him about 8 years ago and got one letter back but I lost her home address and despite a letter to her parents address this year (the only other address I had)the letter achieved no result- they must have moved.
I'd love to see any photos at all you have of any of them- got absolutely loads of Sol so I can also show you some more of him if you're interested.
Also, know its a longshot, but you dont know if Swashbuckler is still alive?
Thankyou so much and hopefully I'll hear from you again soon,
Laura xx

Hi Laura,
El Muntse was bay, as is his son. Strange really because from the parents and grand-parents only one was bay and that was Romac, three were cheshnut and two grey.So he really should not have been bay. I do not know if Swashbuckler is still alive, he would be about 29. Last I heard was he was in the Clitheroe area. I would love to see photos of your horse, it's so good to see the relatives.

Hi Wurzel
Just to say that ive just realised that since yesterday two more progeny( both part bred arabs) have been added to Swashbuckler4 on allbreedpedigree.com; Paddock Lightening born 2003 and Paddock Paragon born 1999, so there may be a good chance Swashbuckler may still be alive if he was still breeding up to 4 years ago! As both have the word Paddock in their names maybe Swashbuckler was bought by the owners of these two?Have tried searching this but havent found anything yet...interesting anyway!
I'll try and upload some photos of Sol later on tonight or tommorow- like you say it is always really good to see the relatives!

Hiya Wurzel(and anyone else if interested!),
Just to say here are a couple of photos of Solomon;
This first one was taken at the Spirt of Sherwood Endurance festival when he was about 15 (my favouite photo) although it's a scanned image which is why the quality is a bit rubbish,
And this is him when he was about 18,
Finally, Solomon doing his favourite activity...eating!!!
Takes me back to the happy memories

Don't quote me but I think Dance of the Hours had a grey colt by Melchoir (Egyptian) that was the last foal by this stallion. he was called I think Magic Dancer. He remained unshown, but did cover a couple of mares, when he was around ten or eleven, one a half Egytpian filly by Kheiralla and the other was Arizonah, (Manavah/America). The resulting colt was I believe nicer than the filly the follwoing year, but I don't know what has become of these grey great neices and nephews. |

Hi all!
Im absolutely gobsmacked at having all these new replies and am now smiling from ear to ear!!!Thankyou all so much for your replies!
Wurzel- Sorry i havent received your email yet? Just to check my email address is: lauradeckerone@aim.com - thankyou!!As for posting pictures, i worked it out two weeks ago but have now completely forgotten so probably best to check through the Help part of the forum- normally someone has asked about this and admin give really good help answers! (thats how i did it!)
Bia- i cant believe he has a full sister! It would be wonderful if she was still alive. Also, thanks for listing all of Dance of the Hours progeny- all breed pedigree wouldnt let me do that so this is wonderful! Although I havent got the AHS studbook so cant check spelling!Does look like it could be wrong though...
Catqueen- it would be wonderful if you could find Swashbucklers owners address- still dont know if hes alive or not as all my internet searches have proved fruitless! Also, would love to see some pics of Majic Dancer and Sulan Snow Queen if possible?Dont mean to be cheeky but am just so excited!
Well thanks again for all your info and hopefully I'll hear from some of you again!

Just found your posting on Arabian lines, we owned Swash for about 17 years. He was put to sleep after at 28 years old. He was really was a gentleman, and everyone who knew him remembers him fondly. We breed part breds, and currently have two of his daughters both in foal.
His part bred children bred by us are:
Paddock Lightning, Paddocklow Divine, (in foal to Redoutable TB) Paddock Paragon. (in foal to Nevada War Drum)
His grandchildren are:
Paddocklow Ambassador, Paddocklow Persephone, Paddocklow Supernova. (Paragon's current foal)
If you require any more info. or even want to come and see them please feel free to contact me.

Hi Paddie!
I was so chuffed when I read your message- I can't quite believe i've managed to find you!
It's lovely to know that you owned Swash for such a long time- and he certainly passed his temperament on to my lad. Wonderful to hear as well that you've still got three part bred children and three grandchildren by him still with you. And fuure generations to come!
In response to your very kind offer of letting us come and visit, me and my mum would love to take you up on this if you wouldnt mind? Sol was such a major part of my life for so many years and I still miss him so much that it'd be lovely to see some of his relatives and to find out as much info as possible.
We're actually only based in Rochdale nr Manchester and I notice you're only in Whalley- it's a small world as I work in Blackburn!
So thanks again so much for getting in touch- it means the world to us and we look forward to hearing from you,
Laura xx
