I am at long last sending my maiden mare to the stallion this week. Have been waiting for her to season since january and now still nothing so hoping the boy himself will work with her to bring her in.
I bottled out of doing it last year but its got to be done the world and their wife has said she will make a brill mum, temprement to die for so have matched this to the stallion
So fingers crossed she takes now when she finally comes into season

He's been pretty busy over the last couple of days with the girlies ready to "oblige", (bless - he's such a happy bunny now!!!). Within his tight schedule of eating, poo-ing for England, yelling, and wrecking his bedding overnight, he's managed to cover 3 mares this week (lucky boy!!!). Poor lad has to fit in with our lifestyle - you know the sort of thing - shearing sheep, chasing cows, school runs and cooking dinner - but he has taken it in all good humour, and his temperament has never let him down.
I think I may have some photos of him that you haven't seen yet, so will email you.

OK Tracey - will do my best, but I wouldn't categorise Leisha into a particular "type". Her dam Luleisha is by Sheikh Mahmoud, he was a grey straight egyptian. I knew him personally from age 3+ - he wasn't a particularly stunning horse to look at, but he sired "type" and "presence". He only sired a handful of foals, but from what I can remember, EVERY foal that was shown, ALL Euro qualified. Two of his gelded son's got Championship at Malvern in subsequent years. His daughters are awesome, very typey with amazing body and topline and always breed these traits on. Unfortunately he died prematurely after an accident in the field.
Luleisha's dam, Bint Ludoet (dk liver chestnut) was by Darjeel out of Ludoet - I am not an English/Crabbet expert, but I think her pedigree was considered to be "All English". Bint Ludoet was an absolute, out and out star. She was BNC, and overall Supreme, came 4th at Wembly (Lloyds Bank in-hand) against all breeds, was 4th at the World Chmps. and also won many shows and Chmps in Europe in the 80's. She was the proud mother of (if memory serves me well) 6 fillies and 1 colt. She died, way too young, at age 16, her lifetime owner/breeder was heartbroken.
As you know Leisha's sire is Taj el Nil (Ansata Nile Pasha (SE) x Tambora(Sp)).
So she Leisha is 25% SE from Sheikh Mahmoud, 25% English from Bint Ludoet (Luleisha), 25% SE from Ansata Nile Pasha, 25% spanish from Tambora (Taj el Nil).
So that makes her 50% Egyptian, 25% English, 25% Spanish (I think!!)
Does that make any sense??? - or have I had one glass of wine too many???
I would say that by mating Leisha with Piligrim you will definitely be adding a WOW factor to the movement, presence and "showmanship" of your future foal. Piligrim will definitely enhance the beautiful horse you already have. Your babe will certainly have many illustrious ancestors in his/her pedigree - can't wait to see the result.

Hi Tracey, you are more than welcome and thankyou for your kind words. Leisha has indeed settled very well and loves watching the everyday comings and goings with great interest. Now down to the business in hand of her romantic interlude with our boy. We will keep you posted

hi all bad news my girl is coming back today not covered she is just not interested at all even after being jabbed in i am gutted my first time at breeding and it has gone totally pear shaped i bottled out of doing it last year so felt bit more confident this year and went for it now this!! perhaps breeding not for me is it an omen!! Janet and Paul have been absolute angels and have done everything they can to get her covered but sadly after 4 weeks nothing from her, cant believe it really as she is such a tart at home when in season
so now i say to myself what now!!!

I know it can be expensive ,but leaving her at a stud to settle a bit longer may have made a difference, lots of mares when first away from home will not show to the stallion or let him near her, but when she gets into the stud routine, she will be happier and then should show nicely, the clue is that she is a tart at home which means she is in a place where she feels safe, maybe you should have left her there a little longer? jmo of course |

So sorry for you Tracey, I know you were looking forward to this mating - mares eh??? Why don't you try AI? Even better if you can find a really good vet and "do it" at home, where the mare is settled and happy???
Breeding is such a lottery and always depends on the horses. Sometimes they don't like the look of their "chosen mates". Someone once said that "poor men breed for the rich to prosper" - so true in most cases.
