I have just got my first box - a Bedford AWD, 7.5t. What sort of tyre pressure should I be keeping to? I don't have a manual to refer to. Someone has suggested about 80lb.
Hi Sarah, I posted a Q on Lycos and got this answer.... "your 7.5 ton awd horse box will be on, 205/70.17.5 or 215/70.17.5 tyres i would recomend 95psi front 90 psi rear if you look carefully on the sidewall of your tyres there will be a reccomended pressure for both single(front)and twin(rear) which also shows the maximum recomended load at this pressure."
Or this was another suggestion.... Try using this link http://www.a2b-web.co.uk/tyre-pressure/ I'm guessing you will have 17.5" rims, but you may have 22.5". Look on the side of the tyre for something like 75R17.5 (it may have another number in front like 235/75R17.5). Look through the table until you find your tyre size (on the bottom of the 2 tables) and then look for you axle loads (probably about 2.5T front, 5T rear, but there will be a plate in the cab if you don't know). That should then lead you to the pressures. More tables are available on the tabs at the bottom of the web page. You should end up being around 80 - 85 psi. Don't know if this is any use to you!
Cheers hunny - aren't you clever!!! Am doing a maiden voyage in the box this Sunday up to Tebay in Cumbria. The Tank won't make it (we are hoping his knee isn't broken) and so I'll be taking Obi. Wish us luck! Later on in the summer I still want to go up to Crow Wood. U still up for taking Obi for a spin if I give you plenty of notice? If you DO visit Brego and Matrix - let me know as it's local to Obi and I too.
Not clever just like finding out the answer to random queations!(Must be the scientist in me!) What on earth has tank done to himself? And yeah I'll be up for a ~Ahem~ spin with Obi (I think!) Will definately try to get over your way sometime this summer would be lovely to meet the old bugger! Let us know how you get on Sunday...good luck n have lots of fun!
