I'm sure this has been discussed many times before and I have searched through the forum for any information without sucess!!
What in everyone's opinion is the best winter turnouts with a detachable neckcover that will not rub out the mane?!!!!
Quinn has lost a chunk the size of 2 plaits worth at the base of his mane for the last 2 years as a result of his neck cover rubbing. He has been wearing the Slumberdown rug from Fal and it fits really well all over, it's just really unfortunate that the neck cover rubs him. It's really exposed where we are based, so he needs the neckcover to keep him warm. I'm at a loss as to what to do about it.

I second that - Horseware rugs are fab - we've got the Amigo's with detachable necks and the Rambo Combis and his mane is fine with those x |

Brilliant, thanks. Will have a go with Horseware this year I think. They have a good choice of styles don't they?
With Horseware, are their rugs cut true to size? Fal seem to cut their rugs more generously. Quinn has been wearing a 6' one of theirs, but he has 6'3" in his Shires Summer Turnout, which is actually what he measures. Just not sure what size to order for him?

I've always found horseware to cut on the smaller size so you need a size up esp in the amigo range my 5'6 gelding ends up in a 5'9. Its a shame about the Fal as I have used my silver Fal rug and neck no probs but for the first time my horseware high neck has rubbed!! Horses contrary!! |

Zak has a Weatherbeeta Arion Combo which doesn't rub his mane or shoulders. Next year the Weatherbeeta Combo rugs will have detachable necks so you don't have to have the neck cover on all the time which would also reduce the chances of it rubbing. |

Agree Fal and Horseware are the absolutely the best outdoor rugs, I prefer Fal's fastening on the neck cover as my mares dislike the fiddly velcro strip that Horseware have on theirs. Fal are a more generous fit and probably stay waterproof longer than any. Horseware don't have so much room around the chest on big fronts (like my Welsh D). I have two original green, standard fit Rambos that have done nine and ten full winters without a single repair! Shires outdoor rugs are all useless and fall to bits, their stable rugs aren't so bad, Weatherbeeta fit but don't last and don't stay waterproof, Masta have a daft system of posting the surcingle through a slot (so rain drips away from the horse), they are horribly fiddly with cold, wet hands. |
