Absolutely disgusting. Doesn't it just get you so mad to see this kind of abuse to these beautiful animals. |

Oops, have I missed something here? That looked like a well-trained horse doing what it was trained to do. There are lots of people who think that anyone who "owns" or "rides" a horse is, by definition, cruel. Judge not lest ye be judged. |

Jen, so do most dressage horses to most people, especially if they're tail- swishing. Depends who's watching. We got 2 pups last year - they were miserable too, cos someone chopped their tail off. I'm still hating that one |

And, by the way, I would love to do Endurance, especially because people say that our horses are good at Endurance - I say my horses are really really pretty and really really well-bred and they can endure you - if you have a problem with that you can do the proverbial! |

Actually, no, rant will never be over, I tell my farrier and my dentist, they don't care about their cobs and their standardbreds but they do sometimes worry about their Ayrabs.....those beautiful, standstill girls... |

I don't know how anyone could defend this. The poor horse shaking its head with the line round its front leg looked like it was being tortured and they all looked thoroughly miserable. Disgusting. |

I found this on another site
"The horse is fitted with fringies and boots that have straps on them, these straps are tightened very very tight, this starts a pins and needles effect, the straps are losened and this starts the pain that you feel after the pins and needles, when the horse starts to move properly the process starts again."

Yes indeed Vera, point taken! Sorry, I had to endure a couple of stories about starved mange-riddled horses and puppies last night and when I saw the vid I couldn't see any sores or ribs. No justification for anything like this. Sorry again, I looked back at my posts and none of them make any sense at all, I was upset about other things. Best, Rhoni xx |

Rhoni, I totally agree re some dressage horses and a multitude of other very unhappy animals, but those 'dancing' horses really look like they would rather be dead than doing those 'dances'. I spent years travelling in India, Africa etc and saw many animals being asked to perform degrading acts ~ one of the worst being 'dancing' bears unhappiness oozed from every pore of their being and I felt ashamed to the pit of my stomach to be human and in a sense part of their torment . I felt the same when I looked at this sickening horse abuse, Vera is spot on with her thread title because abuse is what it is.

Rhoni, we crossed posts ! There are so many upsetting things it is true and sorry that you were feeling down when you posted last night. I think some of the worst cruelty is mental torture though, it didn't escape my attention that the Pakistani horses looked fed well enough, but god only knows how they trained them to do what they are doing and their eyes and ears, general body language tell you everything about the sheer misery of what they are enduring .

Hi Jen,
I remember seeing a bear chained to a pavement in Romania and the look in its eyes will haunt me forever. And the little mongrel puppies with no hair at all hanging out at the railway station broke my heart too. I've got 6 rescued dogs at the farm too. I actually haven't had the bottle to look at the vid again to see what I missed last night. Sorry, I'm a bit miserable at the mo xx |

Don't watch it again Rhoni, it will only deepen your melancholy. Sorry that you are feeling low, hope you soon feel a bit more cheery .

I think I managed 20 seconds of it! Yes the horse I saw looked healthy enough, but I dread to think what the owner tied where to train it! It reminded me of the bear dances..But we could have it completely wrong and it could be trained kindly....but I doubt it...Leigh |

I think its sick and unnatural, especially the video Judith posted. Couldn't stand to watch it, it's just sick, those horses must get worked down to the ground |
