A pretty bay Welsh Cob mare has been PTS today on my livery yard. This afternoon i heard her banging like mad on her door so i went over to check that she was ok and found her dripping with sweat, rapidly breathing, scraping the floor and wanting to roll. Turns out her owners have been feeding her dry sugar beet!! Unfortunately the vets couldn't do anything, she obviously had a bad case of colic. How could anyone be so dumb to feed dry sugar beet? Makes me so mad! She was a lovely mare too. RIP Roisin x

How tragic Why do people buy horses when they don't know the basics? Its so and so easily avoided. A gelding onour yard almost suffered the same fate through inexperienced owners. Fed him speedibeet that was too dry, luckily for him the vet managed to clear the blockage. |

Don't know where you are but I owned a Welsh D mare called Roisin a few years ago, Roisin was her stable name, I am wracking my brains for her registered name. Could it be the same horse?? I'm guessing she would be about 10ish now. |

This is so sad - we all know it is just basic knowledge re keeping horses and NEVER feeding sb dry - why didn't the YO pick up on this. Poor mare - sorry this has upset me, so unnecessary. |

Oh Lord, how awful. Poor horse. Poor owners too, probably absolutely devestated as to what they've done. Always read the instructions...

Pashon2001 - I live in Merseyside. This Roisin was between 15-18yrs. Her owner was a girl named Marissa in her early twenties. Don't know how long the girl had owned her for. Roisin suffered from arthritus in her legs too. |

Nikki I have lost track of time, she may have been older than 10 by now, it was a long time ago, just seems such a coincidence. I will drag through my archives to see if I can find a picture. She didnt suffer with arthritis with me but she would have been fairly young. |
