I was going to reply to the topic on Registrations which was covering other aspects of the AHS but it seemes to have now been locked. Members who were at the AGM may remember that I offered help, advice etc at the AGM as I have over 12 years of working at senior level in the Charity sector and have owned Arabs and been a member of the AHS for over 30 years. I can confirm that I have been approached by members of Council and I wait to see if they wish to take up my offers of help. I'm not the saviour of the world but I can help with strategic planning, recruitment and employment legislation, the running of a charity and company limited by guarantee, and have oversight in my organisation for over £12 million turnover - but I'm not a financial whizz. It's up to Council and the Chair as to how and whether they take up the various offers of help, and depending on the constitution as to how. I'm not going to comment on Registration but I echo that it is a pity that Natalie's hard work seems not been recognised sufficiently to allow her to continue this - all on an entirely voluntary basis. Members' thanks should be extended to her at any rate.

I am at a loss as to why the registration topic has been locked. It was started by a council member announcing the "good news story" - as it turns out the "good news" is not quite so good for the future of the society. The current council seems more interested in re-organising the structure of the committees for whatever reason than:
a)listening to the legitimate concerns of members who really are interested in seeing the AHS survive
b)using the right people with experience to organise the committee
c)in actually setting down and producing decent plans for the future financial stability
If the coucil is unable to accept the pressure of the asking of basic but searching questions is it no wonder the members feel frustrated and angry? (and it is to be noted never any answers to the questions) By what other forum can the members galvanise council into reacting with the necessary business acumen? I believe that if council were to give good leadership there is a wealth of talent in the membership which could be harnessed and used. The members need to be able to trust that the objectives of all members of council are for the benefit of the Society.

I have to say Natalie helped me a great deal with my queries. She also said that they were short staffed.... I fail to the see the point of getting a temp in and then letting her go?!? What difference is that going to make?

I too was surprised that the Registrations topic was locked. I have two very important questions to ask of Council.
I understand that James Carine was made Company Secretary temporarily in February although as a Council member I was not informed. Mr. Carine told me that he will be standing down in mid May and I do not see anything on the bullet Council points confirming who is taking over from him. It is illegal to run an Organisation without a Company Secretary.
The other question is who is Hon. Treasurer? Although it was not laid down as part of his duties, David Wheen undertook this position but it has not been filled since his untimely departure in December 2006.
I think a temp in the Registration Department would be helpful even if they just answered the phones - that takes up so much time. There are jobs a temp can easily do and the system is very user friendly so some jobs can be done by a temp.
As to the post of Assistant Registrar, having seen the advertisement, it seems that what they are actually advertising for is an Office Manager. Do they want an Assistant Registrar or an Office Manager or is it one role? I don't think the person will have time to do Registrations if they are also office manager. I assume an Assistant Registrar would be answerable to the Registrar? Who is the Registrar? I know that at present Diana Whittome is assuming that role which we are very grateful for.
One other point, last July, as per the Council minutes, Council agreed to push ahead with the main points in General Hall's Review. When will this be implemented or is it to be scrapped?
I do hope that we hear very soon the answers to these two very important questions.

To have the topic locked just goes to show that the AHS 'Council' think they have the right to bully and dictate to its members. If nothing else Jane Kadri will have far more than the 100 required so well done !!! Philip and Caroline must be making them feel very uncomfortable with their valid questions which pinpoint to overall appalling and amateurish management of OUR Society. The loss of Natalie Meredith to the Stud book and Registrations with her wealth of knowlwdge and dedication just beggars belief.

What I believe and have said to Council members is that IF they employed a person as Director or CEO that person would have Company Secretary responsibilities and would oversee all the workings of the organisation as a charity and company limited by guarantee, including admin and finance. They haven't gone that route despite the concerns voiced at the AGM. There is a lot of expertise out here in the membership if they will take up the offers. |

Will a temp(& they should not be expected to)be able to organize a Breeding Seminar of the like that members, past & present council members enjoyed a couple of years ago - or produce a complex and theoretical post on anglos and part-bred arabians. If anyone can re post this I for one should enjoy re-reading it! Can someone tell me why Natalie is gone!

And can someone also explain why the other thread was locked? It makes no sense to me (but then I've not had my HRT yet today!). |

Natalie has gone because the Council voted her off the Committee. At present Natalie has gone to help organise the WAHO Conference in Damascus and I am glad she is having a break. Natalie was responsible for producing the last two Stud Books and the Directory of Studs. Who is going to do this now?
Was the site locked because one of the members of Council told a moderator to lock it?
We had a Chief Executive but a majority (not unanimous) of Council decided to terminate his contract in December. He undertook all the roles you are now listing on this forum. Over the years, many people have taken on this job but very few (apart from James Carine) have stayed. This goes back to the time that the office moved from Cranbrook to Ramsbury. The job is VERY difficult so it seems to hold down.
We won't get answers to questions posted here. The best way is to send all questions by letter to The Chairman, Annette Hedley and copied to the Vice Chairman, Finn Guinness so let's get writing. Copy to all Council if you can so no one has an excuse to suppress letters. Please express your concerns in this way as then Council will have to answer them.

Are these people getting dispensed with because they make their uncomfortable views known? Do the very pivotal people at the top hold sway on all matters or are there democratic votes about such things? Could we perhaps have the EGM with a view to discussing the constitution so that there is greater democracy in the organisation; i.e. that major decisions should be the subject of a majority, secret ballot of Council (for example). It seems anyone who is putting forward obvious and essential proposals to save the society from ruin are quickly silenced by dismissal, and there should be some mechanism by which that is either blocked pending the consent of the membership, or subject to a watertight process of transparency, with decisions made public within a reasonable amount of time. Expense should not be an issue as a members area of the website is perfectly possible. |

Has anybody thought that we may lose Diana Whittome as well if she finds she cannot work with people without sufficient knowledge or experience? A person can only stand so much opinion and intervention! Caroline has firmly reminded us about the last 2 studbooks and the excellent stud directory. How about the DNA debacle? How many of us utilised our vouchers provided as a discount against foal registration for that year? Natalie again!!! Can Natalie not be co-opted back on to Studbook and Registration-it seems to be done all the time! Council voted her off! MEMBERS/BREEDERS/ARABIAN/ANGLO/PARTBRED ENTHUSIASTS VOTE HER BACK ON!

i can't speak for Natalie but what is the logic of her being co opted onto a committee when she would not have a vote
she would have had a vote as a member voted on by council a better arrangement would be for council to re-elect Natalie onto the committee in her own right with one of the new members standing down if they were really serious about the committee they could put themselves up for co option and learn the ropes as suggested by Caroline Sussex. Or perhaps Mrs Bridges could stand down and continue to look after the Malvern Show - after all much of that responsibility was hers under her activities responsibility and that area is a big concern from a financial standpoint.

A most salient point! Let us all hope this suggestion is noted and followed.
