Me and Mazeer desperately needed a holiday so we packed our bags and a good friend took us to Kirkby Lonsdale with her horse and 2 others. We went up on Tuesday and came home today and have had nothing but sunshine.
Mazeer has made me so proud, he travelled up really well, settled into his new home really quickly, hacked out for 4 days and stayed sound :good: and best of all had a holiday romance! He got turned out every single day with his new girlfriend Sophie, a coloured mare he has never met and spent the whole time grooming her which is unheard of for him!
On Tuesday we went on a quick hour and a half hack to stretch their legs after the journey and he jogged nearly the whole way round. On Wednesday we went for 3 hours with only about 20 minutes on roads and when we got back he was dripping from the tips of his ears to the tip of his tail and was soaked in white lather. The others were all ok and he wasn't tired just beside himself with excitement. Yesterday we did an hour and he jogged a bit and today, our last day he finally walked :yahoo: but alas it was time to come home.
There are bridleways coming out of your ears up there and it is only 50 miles from where I live. We stayed in a converted granary, had a cooked breakfast every morning and a pub meal every night - it doesn't get much better I can guarantee that!
Here are some photos to bore you all!
Maz ready and raring for his first hack
My first "through the ears" shot on our first day
"Through the ears" on our second day. This track is directly opposite where I was staying so you came straight out of the stables onto this bridleway. Just look at those cute arab ears.
This is Jane on Maz's girlfriend Sophie and my friend Debs on Winston. Debs towed us up there in my trailer
This is everyone after a quick pit stop
This is me and the other Debbie, with Debs Schnauzer Sadie on my knee and Tess who lives at the stables
"Through the ears" on Wednesday. This beautiful church is just up the lane from the stables
This is me and Debs
Maz and Sophie doing some back scratching
The view from the stables
and again. You can see the Howgills in the distance to the left of the photo

How lovely!!! The scenery round the Lune Valley is gorgeous - we were there on Easter Saturday (with a bumper record-breaking crowd of about 20,000 others!) for the Vale of Lune Point-to-Point. |

Kirby Lonsdale is on the River Lune and is not far off the M6 junction for the South Lakes/Kendal - actually go away from Lake District. You drive along the Lune Valley to get to it and it's very pretty - especially in spring as there are loads of daffodils around. Lovely area of the country and not far from Ingleborough where there are spectacular caves. |
