Hi there everyone
I am a total beginner to showing in hand, usually prefer hacking mine, but thought it would be a great learning curve for my yearling and myself.
Just wondering if any one can give me tips on training to get my filly into the ring and standing and moving for the judge. I want to give her the best chance, its only a bit of fun for us but would be nice if we half looked like we know what we are doing, i know I am probley a little late with the training but she is a fast learner and I have had a foot injury so still on recovery.
Any tips and advice would be wonderful.

What have you done to your foot?!
I know abso nothing about showing in hand either... we should get together for lessons Mandy Thomas (Thomos) is not far from you -perhaps she would help you?

Judith I trod on broken glass!!! Wasnt even drunk lol, Did it at home it went quit deep and have severed a nerve so my big toe is numb doc said another 6 weeks again till its better. I decided last night that its not going to stop me though so pulled on the riding boots and for some strange reason no limp, they seem to hold my foot really well and i can even run in them! So been messing around with Lakota Cisco, hoping to get her going a bit so I can do some riding this year on her. Holly (Shahera your boys mum) has been having problems with her respritory so dont want to ride her till she is right.Would be good to get together Judith and have a practice at this, where is Mady based?
Are you going to have a bash at this showing business Judith and if you are come to Cothi Bridge Show! i have e-mailed you the schedule, if anyone else is here in wales would be good to support it its on the 26th May. |

Gen, there are new rules to showing. So the horse can be posed more naturally now-hence making it easier.
Does she lead in walk and trot now? |

Hi Judith, thank you for volunteering my services, it must have given some amusement to the more "exuberant" in hand showing people !
Gentle, you (and Judith) are very welcome to come and practice with some of our horses, though we take a traditional approach to showing in hand, as we see it very much as part of their education to becoming riding horses.
This year I'll be showing a yearling gelding and 3 yo filly both by Imad.
You could do a little mock class here if you like, when I'm judging it always amazes how many people don't know how to turn their horse, and also don't actually seem to enjoy it that much, it is supposed to be fun !
Let me know if you want to come over , I'm on holiday for the next few weeks as we've got a foal due, we've also got a RAGW meeing on the 21st if you fancy coming

Hi Gentle - ouch - that sounds nasty!!! Have made a note of Cothi Bridge show - will try to come down to meet you & see you running round the ring Don't think my Arabs are show material...Maj would be the only one suitable...but she won't load! Wouldn't mind a go at inhand with Polly our QH (shes been shown before apparently) - but don't suppose there are suitable classes at our local shows!
Mandy - thats kind of you What shows are you taking yours to - I know you have been trying to twist my arm to go with you Might pop down to see you when you are off - well to see your beautiful horses really My friend has never seen a Spanish horse - she would love to see your boys!

Hi Judith feel free to come and visit, give it a week and hopefully Augusta will have a foal.
As for shows I'll probably go to Cothi Bridge(as its so close), Pembroke County, Monmouth,Bridgend, a few little local ones, the Crabbet Show, and the next RAGW show (provisionally 7th October) this of course assuming sound horses, sufficient energy levels, finances etc, etc.
Gentle I'm halfway between Llandovery and Llandeilo, are you near LLanllwni ? if so you're only about 30mins away.

Mandy would be great to come down as I dont have the first clue about it!! Where abouts are u I am in Llanllwni, u did say before. Would be fantastic. Where is the ridden group Wales held Mandy.
Yes Nikki she does walk and trot in hand although most of the time its done without head collars as she is a dog not a foal lol
Judith, I dont think mine will be taking rossetts home just doing it for fun and to support the local shows really.
Bl**dy pc in work keeps on with the welsh e-mails, its so annoying

Hi Gentle, the next RAGW meeting is at the Sexton Arms in Llansadwrn on Saturday, which is only about 3 miles through the lanes from Talley.
We're having out points awards, a quiz, photo show and then a discussion about the events that members would like to see over the next 12 months, we're a friendly bunch and its a very relaxed pub
Theres a bit more info on the RAGW web page, if you go to my website and click on the RAGW page.
We could also sort out a time for you to come over for a bit of practice, as I said we are quite traditional in our showing but as both our stallions have been British National Champions in hand we can't be doing too badly !
