Hi,

Can anyone advise on a decent fly rug that:
a) stays put
b) has a neck cover which doesn't slip round the neck or rub the mane out
c) is cool and comfortable for regular use

Have tried a couple but my last one completely obliterated Taz's mane where the neck cover kept slipping round and becoming quite tight low on his neck. If I don't use the neck cover I end up with a 2-tone horse as his coat bleaches in the sun!!

Not exactlty a fly rug but a friend of mine swears by the Rambo Dustbuster and the Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody which she uses as fly rugs.

Nikki.. Hi there! Mark Todd fly rug with neck cover or Shires Maxiflow midge rug and neck cover. Will suit all your needs!
From an itchy Andalusian owner who has one on 24/7 most of the time...

Sweet Itch Hoody which goes over the ears and the Tesco Fly Rug which comes with a neck cover (now in its 2nd yr but I have had to use one 3" bigger). I use the Hoody for a pony who is very itchy and the Tesco to protect the coat for showing.

Can't offer advice sorry! but my one experience of a fly rug was when I bought one for Rufus....put it on & then an hour later saw him standing not looking all that happy.......on investigating - the flies had found their way up the sides of the rug (despite the large belly wrap) & were dancing up & down on his back - he wasn't a very happy horse - so off came the rug!

Hi, Loveson make a really good fly rug, small mesh- very soft, includes hood, rug, belly pad, mask for just under £40, we sell them at work and we have had loads of good comments about them.

Have had the same Mark Todd for six years. Still immaculate and stays put no matter what, goes in the washing machine and comes out perfect.

And the good thing about the Mark Todd or Shires Maxiflow is that the body rug ends at the withers so you don't get that horrible half way up the mane bit rubbed out! The Mark Todd has a good, wide bit of satin lining along the crest to prevent hair loss.
Edited to add: I was able to attach the mesh neck cover to Otan's turnout rug over the winter. The midges were about on an off all winter long.
