Sat looking out of my office window and saw a pony being pts and winched into a wagon. presume it was from the livery yard opposite. Someone said they saw it limping earlier. I didn't know it but was upsetting all the same. Rest in peace little pony.

Thats such an undignified end to be dragged into a horsebox. I often wonder why they cant put the to sleep in the wagon. It would be much more private and less upsetting for the owners. JMO

What a terrible thing to see whether you knew the pony or not, that is so upsetting. It is an awful way to go though, i know you have to be practical but i could never watch this sort of thing.

I agree seeing a pony winched up is horrid for us or the owner, but I'd rather that than my pony put into a strange smelling box for its last few minutes. Rest in peace little pony.

Mmm... when we had my old mare pts the deed was done on a patch of sweet grass and I hid in her stable while she was taken away (which was supervised by the farmer). It's horrible, but they are no longer 'home'... and the knackerman who took her away was really kind and thoughtful.

Horrible thing for you to see though.

What a dreadful thing to see. I must confess that when my old boy was PTS a couple of years back I vowed to stay with him right to the end, couldn't do it, total coward I know but as soon as he started to drop I ran, but the most distressing thing for me is the sound of the winch, makes it so final, I had to hide in my office with the radio on full blast when they took away my poor mare last month, the guy who collected her was extremely caring and thoughtful, and I do agree about them being no longer 'home'.

I agree, when my filly was PTS she was also on a patch of grass. I didnt want her on the lorry with strange smells, I prefered her to be in familiar surroundings. I also wimped out and my dear friend did everything for me. I had to go home as soon as the vet arrived. She even had her ashes delivered to her and then she brought them to me.

Its an awful thing to think about, and we all do it in the way we can best cope with it.

How awful!!! Bet you wish you weren't in that place at that time and didn't have to watch such an ordeal. The little pony will be at rainbow bridge now and his suffering over so we have to be thankful for that.

Take care

Its dreadful. There is no getting away from the fact, BUT......

There is no dignified way to deal with big animals, we just cannot lift them gently, as we do our small ones.
I take my hat off to the pony owner/carer. They could have sent him/her to market for the meat man, or sent to the knackers, both are equally, and very distressing for the pony.

Gallop pain free little pony, and hopefully meet all your friends, in the place where all good things go. XX
