It appears to me that scant regard is given to serious leg problems eg back at the knee in breeding class's. It must be so as I've seen stallions in particular that are imported, have won at the highest level in the country, and in susequent advertising are there for all to see with their leg faults It must be true then that you can ride a head, and what's in fashion is correct. What exactly is ARABIAN TYPE,and does Extreme mean ... "close to deformity and really we don't give a damn". We humans have a real knack of destroying animals, and the bottom line is always money.

I'd like to add that it's been 25yrs since I owned an arabian or showed one. Now that my children are mostly independent I've purchase a filly with the idea that she will become the permanent partner of a 15yr old stallion who has never been shown and is virtually unknown. I feel he is the epitomy of true arabian type ,is beautifully balanced, very masculine and has excellent legs. He doesn't belong to me, but to an old friend, who despite having 15-20 pure arabian mares has not used him because of her health. In fact she has'nt bred a purebred foal in years. The stallion has to date no purebred foals. He is of crabbet/colonial breeding, and yes he has a lovely head and neck and his name is Fawley Silver Salute . My filly is by Rusleem out of Sunne In Silver, her name is Rusleema, and her breeder is Anne Brown of Gadebrook stud. She(the filly) goes into quarantine at the end of this month |

Hi Toothless (the mind boggles at that user name!). Welcome... Great to have overseas contributors here. I wonder if your subject - which I think loads of people will have strong opinions about - would be better placed on the Discussion section of the Forum? I'm sure you'll get lots of knowledgable comments. Knowing of Rusleem, I bet your filly is a real cracker and made for performance! Perhaps you could cut and paste? |

Roseanne, I've given it a try (the cut and pasting as you call it ) but because I'm A beginner with the computer I have'nt got a clue. In fact the reason I purchased a horse in the UK was in part due to this inexperience. Let's just say that it was as easy as walking across the road. Of course this easy stroll is going to cost me heaps. Fawley Silver Salute impressed me so much, and the thought of him kicking the bucket with possibly no purebred progeny was the incentive I needed To Start Looking. I had planned to get a pure crabbet mare but got sidetracked, which tells me that its not so much the bloodlines but Type that matters, along with temperment plus movement. I'd seen a pct of Rushan in the aust arabian horse mag and this led me to contact Gari his owner. them at Gadebrook stud I saw Rusleema and her Dame and a photo of Rusleem whom I liked very much. Then I found out that Rusleem and Rushan were full brothers. Initially I was offered Sunne In Silver as Rusleema was to be retained: and I was prepared to take her and send her to Rusleem. That's when Rusleema was made available, and because her foal photo ,her dam and her sire impressed me I purchased her, Even though she's only 70+ % crabbet. I've seen another pict of her as a 2yr old and I feel I've made the right choice and hopefully she will compliment Salute. It's easy when you've only got to please yourself- As crazy as it all is. So tell me Rosanne how do I get these photos up. |

Hi Toothless (why Toothless? Surely not!!!) Lovely pictures; I'm afraid I don't know how to post pictures so it's great Pauline's done them. By cut and paste I meant moving your topic to the Discussion part of the forum because I think there are lots of people there who would love to see your beautiful photos and talk about the conformation issue you raised. This section is really for 'breaking news' and new information rather than people's general discussion. I will never forget seeing Rusleem on my first visit to the Horse of the Year Show where he was Champion Ridden Arab. A classical chestnut-with-white-socks Arab. Rusleema looks very elegant and beautiful. Will you be riding her as well as breeding - and if so in what disciplines? I did see another of your pictures of a grey on the Discussion forum. I wonder if that's the missing one? |

Thank you Pat,I'll have to learn how to do that, although at this time of my life I'm happy if I retain anything, and not lose to many neurones. Judith ,with that many posts you've been around a long time. I had a Welsh friend when I practiced in the country. He had all his teeth and kept Ferrets. Selwyn was his name. |

Sorry Roseanne. Because of the time difference I'm on the computer by myself, and I have to use it when my daughter is not in her room. No I don't ride because I'm too heavy and I don't want to do myself an injury.I will slim down however. Iknow ayoung woman who does ride in dressage, and when I told her I was buying Sunne she was very happy. howeever Rusleema has taken her place, and as Karen suffers quite badly with rheumatoid arthritis it would be too mutch for her to get the filly going. the prime reason I bought rusleema was because Fawley Silver Salute Gives me goosebumps every time I see him, and I think he is too good an Arabian to be lost to the breed without purebred progeny. He is unshown and a virtual unknownand his owner wont part with him, and Australia is a bloody big country, and too many haved moved away from crabbet stock. All I can say is that they are blind as this little guy is as good as they come and I've seen both his sire and dame. He's a little dippy in the back but the photo of him makes it look worse because he is standing in a little depression up front. I see him as a complete entity , beautifully balanced.strong, a top mover and vibrantand trustworthy. And he's not my horse. |
