Oh the fun of jumping ...
We had out first 'proper' encounter with jumps yesterday - if you can call them jumps ... last week I was thinking 'oh we'll crack this jumping lark in time for the odd tiny clear round this season' - Sophia meanwhile had other ideas ...
To start with I was on the floor with my wide eyed companion prancing next to me rather excited about our new challenge. This is how it went:
S - Mum, why are you walking next to me and not riding? me - because we're going to try something new today S - oh great fun, I'll show off by prancing sideways then me - you really dont have to - but if you insist ... S - what the hell is that extremley scary pink bucket doing on the floor? must run away from it ... Me - Oh great, shes scared of the bucket she sees every day - this is going to be fun ... S - oh OK, i can handle walking over the pole whilst its on the floor - as long as that bucket doesnt bite me Me - OK ... she can walk over the pole (quite a few times) - lets see what happens if we raise it by oh a whole few inches ... S - OK, lets see if we can stand ON the pole and break it Me - hmm, perhaps not ... lets try again S - this time lets jump it about 50ft higher than the pole me - my arm has been ripped out of its socket S - again, again ... Me - think we'll wait for Summer ...
Perhaps you wont be seeing me in the jumping ring this summer guys ... then again the day is rather lovely - wonder if we should try again ... wheres that body protector??? haha - oh the fun!!!

Hee hee, this made me laugh!
I have just drafted Jack's 'training schedule' for the next few months, and it includes learning to jump - like you, we're just aiming for the tiniest of clear round courses.
(I don't know why I've done a training schedule, you can bet your bottom dollar it won't quite happen that way, lol!)
We just about mastered the art of being ridden over 3 trotting poles last week, so keep your fingers crossed!
Thanks for posting, and let us know how it goes with the evil scary pink horse eating bucket! |

LOL my jumping diary would consist of... Day one: Its lovely and sunny and the 2 sole arab owners on the yard are sitting out and drinking a couple of small glasses of wine. "Oooh look at the pretty poles..shall we have a go?" "First one to the arena smells!" (Please note, after this conversation the arena side became surprisingly crowded!) First attempt: my friends anglo gelding threw himself from one end of the arena to the other...in approx 0.5 seconds...taking the jump from 20 foot away and leaving his rider at the point of execution! Second attempt: Honey and I approached the 'jump' (it WAS a foot high at LEAST!) In a sideways motion, took off like a ginger posessed, fly bucked one stride before the jump, once in mid-'flight' and as soon as all 4 feet touched down...she jammed in a final MASSIVE effort (for good measure) Rider was last spotted sitting behind ponies ears with her fingers hooked under the headpiece of the bridle (Please note for the record pony stood stock still whilst rider 'reseated' to howls of laughter and squeals of 'go on do it again!') Theres alot to be said for dutch courage! |

That looked great, I will have to muster the courage and try it on Han, from the ground our free school jumping turns into a version of wall of death! |
