I am truely blessed & honoured to own Rowan (Rameed/Rumbolds Contessa) - he's a very ordinary but sort of pretty Arab gelding - I've done enduarance on him (hes Intermediate level). Hes just SO good - I ride him out on the hills escorting our guest & their neds - he just does what I ask & ignores what the other neds are doing.....he stands with reins loose for me to take photos - his ears appear in many of my picies! He also knows the "safe" routes over the hills (hes my partner when I go exploring) - when I get to boggy areas that I don't know - I dismount & he follows me as I test the route - it its OK - we go forward -he never forgets it & he adds it to his OK riding routes on the hills - I rely on him - hes abso BRILL!!!!! He is totally amazing as I can just drop the reins & he will take me & guests over boggy areas - I tell the guests to follow exactly where he goes - we haven't lost any one !!!!
when I go out on the hills to explore - Rowan is my mount & friend - I will only go where he will & vice-versa on the open hills - there are bogs that can swallow horses without a trace!!
He will also take a very novice rider & look after them - it takes him about two mins to suss out his rider - then he looks after them!
But for a good rider he is a great FUN horse & loves nothing better than to galllop & race!!
He is I think a one in a million Arab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here he is - taken today with Donna my friend on top - her first experience of a full Arab!!
I have his mum & daD.............I would LOVE to create another Rowan!!!!

He cost me I think it was £200 as a two year old! I have always said he is the best horse that I will ever own & that I will never ever part with him!!! He is my best friend & an amazing Arab! We seem to have a great understanding & trust of each other - when I ride him I can just think go left, right, stop, steady or whatever & he does just what I think!! Wonderfull!!!! He's also extreemly trustworthy & he's helped a couple of my friends regain their nerve riding. |

Aw Judith what a wonderful chap! makes your heart burst with pride and love for them!! Freddie is much the same bless him and although I have never been around other arabs to compare, just know he is my once in a lifetime. He has taught me to ride at 45 and if he senses danger before I do, ignores my commands and keeps me safe. I know I can trust him with my life and on the odd occasion when monsters lurk in the hedgerows, he knows Mum will guide him through. I cant wait to master my fear of the faster paces so that I can enjoy him fully. Sandie |

Judith I congratulate you on your horse in a million. I think my Cassia is fast becoming mine (he is now 7 and I bred him myself). I truly do feel that the Arabian horse is so special, so intelligent, and if you let them, so trustworthy. You are rightly proud of your boy, and so you should be. I have lost my nerve a few times with thoroughbreds and warmbloods, but my Arab has made me find that wonderful "free spirit" that I used to have 20 odd years ago. They truly are very special horses. AH Judith he sounds/looks wonderfull. That sort of horse is worth there weight in gold.
I have a Suffolk Punch Gelding who's like that also. A friend of mine who broke her back in a riding accident (semi paralised) she is to scared to ride again and the only horse she will sit on/ride is my Suffolk "Toffee".

Hopefully Nikki - if we can get Tessa (Rowans dam) back in foal this year (she was covered & scanned in foal twice to Rameed last year - but returned) - but apparently Rowan is the only one of the Tessa/Rameed offspring that doesn't look like the sire - Rowan is the spitting image of his mother - even down to both have thick mane & thin tails !!! |

Oh Judith, he sounds just like my Huggy Bear who actually isn't an Arab but a Welsh Section D. I think there is always one horse who will become your soul mate and it is our privilidge to own them. What you have to rememeber also is that without your love, trust and caring attitude Rowan may not have become the faithful steed you have now. It amounts to team work, give and take, love , respect and communication. I am not brilliant with words but when you put sooooo much love/emotion into owning your horse and ensuring his/her well being then your effort is rewarded by a star like Rowan and my 24yr old Huggy whom I have had since he was a rescue case at the age of 4.It was only the other night I had a weep into Huggys shoulder and told him how much I loved him and he will always be my no 1 and I thanked him for being who he was and giving me so much in return. He whinnied and nuzzled me which made me cry even more. I am sure there are quite a few of us out there with this special relationship, I doubt our husbands will ever really understand!!!!!! Just enjoy and be proud! Kora x |

Judith he sounds fantastic. But how do you choose which horse to ride? You seem to have so many and they're all 'horses of a lifetime'! And how do you do it with a B & B to run as well???? |

Roseanne - I think I must be very lucky regarding my riding horses! Deciding which to ride....well its FUN!!! Also am so lucky that mine don't need to be ridden every day to be kept sane & safe to ride! they can go days or even weeks between rides & still be abso fine to ride - even the fit ones - I am so lucky!! |

Well I envy you! You must have so much energy! I also have horses that you can leave for days or weeks and they're always reliable. I think that's the bonus of a well established horse. Rowan sounds a real gem! Lucky visitors. I can't think of anything more wonderful than staying somewhere you are taken over the countryside on their reliable Arabs! Talking point for life... |
