I WAS going to ride... but I lunged Amelia with her saddle on (so as to be ready) and after about two circles the ears went back, the tail went swish... and then she put in a fine display of bucking. Every time I got her settled we repeated the sequence.
After finishing on a good note (and not pushing my luck) I decided that discretion was the better part of valour as something was obviously causing this uncharacteristic behaviour.
When I took the saddle off, I saw why! She's moulting hard now and the presence of the saddle had caused loads of loose fur to come loose and bundle up - it must have itched and tickled dreadfully! Poor little horse!
I spent ages scrubbing at her with a rubber brush but although the barn looked like it had had a sudden snowstorm she didn't look any different.
So the trick will be to ride for 30 seconds only or get that loose fur off...
