I'm confused. I thought she was seriously ill and had been in hospital?
I don't trust many people in the Arab world anymore, truth be known. I wanted to bid on a stallion but as there were no updates etc, and now that I have finally grown wiser to the ways of 'some' of the 'community' I refrained from bidding.
I hope this resolves itself soon, and it must be very upsetting for Neil when all is said and done. |

It does seem that Neil has been left to pick up the pieces of this fiasco, through no fault of his own.
Marie anne, I think, was ill, but still this was no reason to start this auction and take on horses knowing that she may end up in prison. We can only speculate as to what her intentions were with the money from the auction as her charges were not associated with it...
I feel disappointed that i was fooled by all the stories as many of you are, but i should have realised - lots of things didnt stack up.
The main thing now is to ensure that the charity doesnt miss out and that the money goes direct to the charity. I hope all the stallion owners can bear with admin while they try and sort this mess and hopefully some beautiful foals next year can come from all this. |

I would just like to say that Hanne stallion is in a safe place. I am sure Hanne will do a statement shortly.

Haven't been involved with this at all since I don't breed, but perhaps someone who is involved should inform the police about this auction in case they are unaware of its existence? Although of course it may be genuine, since it sounds like this person has been found guilty of some sort of mishandling of finances the police may well be interested. |

Judi, I am so sorry you are unable to trust the people in the Arab world, all I can say is that you must have been very unlucky and met the wrong people. I can say, with my hand on my heart, that 99.9% of the people I have met are genuine, kind and generous people. It only takes one person to be devious to give everyone else a bad name.
I second what Denise has said, Hanne's stallion is in safe place.
I am sure that the stallion owners will honour the coverings from their stallions, afterall the money will now definitely go to Breast Cancer Research. I can't wait to see who the lucky winners are??? Hopefully the results will be checked and verified by a non-related person??
Surely the money donated via the Paypal account can be tracked and paid to the charity in full???

To be honest I am more worried about Marie-Ann's horses than anything else at the moment. The stallion may be safe, but does anyone know who is looking after her mares? She has mares who are due to foal quite soon, I think.
It sounds as though the auction mess is being sorted out, and the charity will get the money, but I am concerned about the horses.

Hi
I have been told that the horses are being closely monitored.
The institute of fund raising have been in touch with the breast cancer research central office and they know nothing of the auction. They have said that there is no registered Charity number on the website and no specific charity has been nominated and appears that the fund raising has been done by Marie ann alone.
(ADMIN NOTE: - THE BRANCH OF BCR ARE AWARE OF AN EVENT ORGANISED BY MARIE ANN. BUT FULL DETAILS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE ) It is being checked out further so please be patient untill there is an answer. Also information has been passed on but i stress the monies must go direct to stop any futher problems on this matter.

I too would like to hear an update as to whether all the money donated has gone to the Breast Cancer charity as this cause is very close to my heart and I probably would have donated had I still been in the country.
I would also like to hear how Marie-Ann's other horses are doing? |

Maybe those people who donated coverings but had no bids and anyone else willing to donate coverings could start a new topic with full details and pictures of their stallions?
It could be on a first come, first served basis and the mare owner could donate a certain amount to the breast cancer charity and prove it with a receipt?
Then the charity would get more money and some good could come from this?
Thank you to all the stallion owners - I wanted to bid but I don't think I will have a mare available :-( |

So sad for her son, not a happy episode. I am sure the stallion owners could possibly take the stud fee as a cheque made out to the charity and post it on asking for a receipt, that way the money will all go where it should or maybe someone can be the central "collector".
I am so pleased that MJ is safe and well; I would be devastated if it was my stallion but then I am such a "doting mum", almost as bad as you, Kate!!!!
I do hope Marie-anne's mares are safe and well and being looked after. Whatever she has done I am sure she must be worried about them.

It is a drastic and worrying situation if anyone in a positition of trust breaches their responsibilities, especially if it leaves others liable to losses. Is this a long-standing situation or does it extend beyond the stallion auction? It would be terrible if this all happened after proceedings had been instigated for other illicit activities. Additional stress is nearly always placed on others who then have to try to clear up the muddy waters and are tainted by the original transgressor's manipulations. I do hope that no one from Arabian Lines ends up losing through this sorry episode, or that the website suffers in any way from association with any criminal activity. It would be a sorry day...

Hanne, really feel for you and I am sure MJ will be fine, he is in good hands and he is a good strong boy. AL members and many people are angry right now, but just remember where we are coming from, we all have Arab horses welfare in mind and will do all we can to rectify matters and make things right.
As a whole, we are strong, and we are talking about the actions of one stupid, selfish person, let's stick together and get this mess sorted.

I have been asked to pass on this message, from the organizer of the other auction to which I donated a Tobago breeding recently:
"Just been lurking on the AL forum and seen the confusion and distress. I think it is so sad that some breeders may be put off donating coverings to charities in future. I wonder if you could pass on a message from me? I'd like them to know that your nomination benefited Equine Market Watch this year. It was the main auction item of the evening, and gave a huge boost to the final total for the evening - £2,500 which pays EMW's hay bill for a year. If an event is above board, a call to the charity concerned should verify all the details and the contact information for the person organising it."
Equine Market Watch run sanctuaries for old, unwanted and mistreated horses, so this was another good cause. I really hope that the problems with the Breast Cancer auction won't put people off donating in future. |

Oh God- now i bloody know why she asked me to keep quiet about her having an arab mare for free, through me(not mine).
Is this mare going to be well looked after? Whats going to happen to her, the old owner will be devastated. How am i going to tell her this-and it will come back on me
She better not sell her on. |

Thank you Julie and Amanda for your offers of help, i am in contact with Neil now and he has said that it is ok for me to pop in now and again to check the mares are ok.
I have become involved in this situation as i live very close to where Marie-anne has moved her horses and so after finding out about the situation i thought it necessary to check the horses were being cared for.
Fortunately, all horses on loan to her have now been collected, this leaves 3 mares, 2 of which are due to foal next month. I can confirm that i went to the yard last night and saw a lady that is caring for them alongside Neil. They are being stabled at night, are having 2 meals a day, had clean deep straw beds, ample hay, and clean water. They have basic care but neither of them are "horsey people". Apart from popping in every other day or so there is not much more i can do.
I can also confirm that her son is living with his father.
If Neil finds he cant cope any longer, especially if the mares foal soon, then maybe he will require more help then, but until he requests this there doesnt seem much more i can do. |
