I am thinking of showing my purebred stallion, Saeed. I'll admit, he's by no means a top quality show Arab, and is just 13.2hh. He's been backed 3 1/2 weeks, and is going nicely, we've just started some light schooling as well as hacking. He's never going to be a top class show horse, but we'd like to do some showing and have some fun. To show him in-hand, does he HAVE to wear a bridle with a bit, or can he use a halter?
Also, under saddle, will the judge want to ride him - as he's obviously a bit on the small side and is petite too. He is by Zircon Nazeer, and out of a mare by Donax, and is fully papered and has started his flu vaccinations last month.
If he's not going to be showable, we'll just stick to hacking and jumping, as he's showing promise loose-schooling over a decent sized fence
One more thing - my PBA Fangs, is most certainly show quality, and we are going to have a crack at the Cherif qualifiers, after much loacl success last season. However, his breeder is judging at the Championships - and I've been told this will make us un-eligible to enter?
Does anyone know?

Sam you cannot compromise a judge like that if they are judging,so in short etiqette decrees that you cannot enter. She will be obliged to put you last.

Hi Sam,

If Saeed is over 3 years old, you have to show him in-hand in a bit. But it seems to be acceptable if you use clips to attach a bit to a halter.

If I were you in ridden classes, I would try to find out the size of the judge as some of the ridden judges are BIG people. And decide from there whether to enter or not.

No, you can't show your PB if the judge bred him - a definite no, no - but there must be other Cherif qualifiers where you could enter him.

Good luck.

Thanks, that helps.
I was pretty sure it was right that I couldn't show Fangs under her - just wanted to check though. But she is only judging the Championship/Final bit, so we should be OK to enter qualifiers shouldn't we? I think his eye will prevent him qualifying anyway as it is getting worse :(

Saeed is 7yrs old, so I'll have to use a bit then-will the rolled leather bridles be acceptable as I have one of those?

Thanks again,
sam x
