WIND FARMS - URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

20th March 2007

BHS PROPOSES TO CHANGE ITS POLICY ON WIND FARMS

The BHS is proposing to change its policy on wind farms with regard to the recommended width of the buffer zone between turbines and any riding route - bridleway, byway or road - for the guidance of developers and planning authorities.

It is consulting on this new draft policy. This is available on www.bhs.org.uk click on access and then search on wind farms. If you scroll down under access, you will see it under January 25th.

If you have strong views on this topic, please can you email access@bhs.org.uk at once as comments were supposed to be in by March 19th . Comments from those who have actually ridden through a wind farm would be particularly appreciated whether their experience was good or bad.

This isn't so much as a change as urging the Government to implement existing measures....? I read about this in the BHS newsletter/magazine.

The thing that most concerns me is that local councils will probably be the ones to enforce any regulations and, as we have discovered this week, our council at any rate won't enforce such things as planning regulations, conditions, restrictions, covenants and boundaries. They say if people object to such things they have to take it up as a civil prosecution. I don't know whether windfarms/turbines would end up like this, but that does worry me.

But thank you for bringing it all to our notice.
