I charge 75 per week for show livery, that includes feed etc and schooling. Doesnt include- vets, farrier, entries and diesel. I also give freelance help and schooling local ish for 20 per hour including resonable travelling. To ride a class would be 20. Hope this helps. kirsty

Hello Vera and Dennis, I paid, last year, £65 part livery, then schooling fees were £10 per, then £30 per show. Which i always thought good value for money. Kirsty, where abouts are you? Am trying to find some-one in my area to give me some show ring lessons!! The only person in my area is Torty Thomson, but she is about to 'foal' very soon!!! Tina

Tina,
I can help with the show ring lessons if you still want some? I'm 5 minutes from Gatwick. Amanda knows me well!!
I produced my own purebred and recently (only 2 shows due to my foaling in 2003) my mothers Anglo stallion.
I have ridden show hunters at HOYS and compete myself at international level.

Kirsty, maybe you are right!!! Brings a whole new meaning to travelling costs!! Susan, are you still at Ian's yard? If so you are only 2 mins from me, Charlie is at Millfield Farm. Do you still have the lovely boy Mandy rode at Hocon, last year? Tina.

Tina,
I haven't spoken to Amanda recently so don't know about Henry.
I'm not at Ians anymore - we outgrew the yard!! I'm now in Sidlow nr Horley. Millfield is only 10 minutes away.
Still have the young man that Amanda rode at Hocon, thats him in my pics. He's been on box rest for 4 weeks thanks to my pony giving him a kick, but he has the all clear now and will be back for the SER Spring show, if I'm brave enough to get back on him after seeing what he did in the field today!!
If you want some help with the showing etc, send me an email and I'll forward my telephone number for you.
Susan

Its suprising that this hasnt been a more popular topic, the querie about in hand charges received alot of feedback. Perhaps ridden charges are more complicated?

Ridden is a very complicated topic, take me for instance,
- My five year old gelding really should be thinking about a ridden career now (he cant be an in hand horse forever!- or perhaps he might be!), and i had always hoped, that by the time he was old enough, i would have some spare cash to be able to "Send him Away" as there is no way i have the time or everything else to do him justice.
But as always something else crops up (in our case, we jacked our jobs in and have set up our own business) - so what do i do?
a) send him away just to be backed, (but then i will need to spend £500 on tack when he comes home, or it will be wasted), and just hack him about till i can afford production? b) sell him? (no way he's my baby!) and no one would give me a fair price till the scar has fininshed healing, (not to mention the splint!) c) Keep him as an in hand horse (Which he is preety good at!)
So at the moment he is stopping as an in hand horse, - but if i win the lottery (who am i kidding? - i dont even buy a ticket!) i might give kirsty a ring.
