saddlebred... Thanks for the pic of Mr. Sun Tan. Would his dam, the Irish bred Hunter mare, have had I/D in her? What are Irish Hunters usually?
jackie k... Well done for your success with Jacala Morning Gold. He's fantastic!! ( I assume he's yours!)Such a shame Malvern is cancelled. Could you have a look for Legend Indian Goddess and Roundhills Moon God in you mags too?

Sarah
What I mean is that as there was no show during the foot and mouth year, he kept the title that he won as a yearling - I didnt say that he won it four times.....wouldnt dream of it...,,,

LOl - Dave has been speaking to Anne about contingency plans if this happens again - a few people did get there and although 90 % are ok about it there are a few who are not. I just hope everyone got back safely and the horses that spent the night on the motorways are no worse for their ordeal. I am just greatful that we have not been hit by the terrible floods that some have. |

It would help that a contingency plan was available if this should ever happen again....and I think that we should all pull together about this rather than go in seperate directions.
I can understand that some people would be upset about getting there and finding that there was no event, especially when they were told that it was going ahead - mind you how did they get to the ground when others were turned away????
I spoke to Jane and she was back home safe and sound, but Harry is still at the showground...
I agree, here in Wales we have not had half or even a quarter of the amount of rain that they have had at Malvern and reading the thread on the discussion forum shows just how bad it is up there...
Lets hope that the show may be able to be held later in the year with a reduced schedule??? just a thought!!!!!

Hi Indi Irish Hunters (in the old days!) used to be Irish Draught cross Thoroughbred - I think any percentage. These days everything that is part TB or part Arab seems to be called a Sports Horse.
I think Mr. Suntan was probably about 3/4 TB 1/4 Irish draught - although there must have been a bit of something else in there to get the palomino colouring because I dont think either of these breeds come in that shade! Sylvia was probably a bit of Heinz 57 - sneeky bit of Welsh in their I suspect!
I am trying to get some back copies of Palomino magazine to get some old stories of our horses ancestors. Might start a palomino quiz up if anyone interested. Debbie

Just caught up with this thread - what a small world!!! We bought part of Astwood Court Farm twenty years ago from Bill and Rita Collings - so Mr Sun Tan and the rest of the Shepley horses graze where my horses now graze
We did cover one or two of Rita's palominos with Diamond Star - don't know whatever happened to their offspring!!! |

Rita was a very nice lady and bred some beautiful Palomino horses.
Her death was a great loss to the society.

I only remember the Colling's & their horses at Shepley Stud Bromsgrove and always thought Mr Sun Tan has some Arab Blood. Occationally, I would go with a gentleman to the Shepley Stud, in Bromsgrove to deliver/collect a horse and would always get a chance to see all the horses, including Mr Sun Tan...

the kick has made him lame and the lower leg has swollen, but a girl on our yard tells me thats okay (she is a vet) as the fluid from the swelling is building up there, the injury itself is quite clean and about an inch long, he also has 3 bite marks along his neck, he only shares his field with one other horse a welsh cob mare, so not sure why she has turned on him, wonder if she may be in season??? he is a little subdued and hates it being hosed down an cold compressed, but what else can i do? im giving him arnica also to help with the bruising, any ideas?(Sorry to hijack the thread judith)

Hi Zakyle I found this picture of Roundhills Gucci as a youngster in the Palomino magazine.
Try again with that photo. Once you get the knack of it it isnt too bad. We would love to see more recent shots in full technicolor!!
Hope the kick is all healed up now btw. Debbie |

Hi Jackie K Your gorgeous photos are making me depressed!!
One of my dreams in life is to have a palomino national champion. I bought my lovely Shulay Faberge filly with this in mind only for her to get a kick by my jealous old mare. Now left with a small scar on knee so I thought.... never mind we will concentrate on the ridden classes. So here I am merrily breaking her in and you post those photos which make me realise I have got more chance of flying to the moon than winning at the nationals!!
Congratulations on all your success with Jacala Morning Gold. He is absolutely stunning and looks like everything a good palomino should be... perfect colour and lovely conformation. I would be proud to come second to your boy.See you next year! Best wishes Debbie

Hi Debbie
I am so sorry that my photos are depressing you
My dream was to have a national champion palomino and with the help of Pauline Gribben (loaning us the mare Legend Arabesque) our dreams came true - so please remember dreams DO come true so dont give up
If you want to email me about the scar on her leg and a picture, please feel free
With regards to the ridden - YOU have exactly the same chance as anyone else in the ring - so we look forward to seeing you in the ring next year
Jacala Morning Gold is a one off horse in a million and we really are lucky to be part of his life
Where do you live???
Also I dont know if you noticed earlier, but we own a Cremello mare by Shulay Faberge out of Shepley White Jasmine who was bred by Jan Browne and we have just covered her with out stallion Emenes and we now wait
regards Jackie x |

thanks for your replies re Guccis kick, its been nearly a fortnight now, and its been a bit of a worry (i do worry though) as it swelled up quite a bit, then the swelling subsided at the bottom, just leaving the top swollen, near the kick, which is to be expected, then he had oedema (sp) and its been up down up down all week.....good job im not showing him!! |

Hi Jackie Jazz's scar isnt too bad - wouldnt stop me showing her and I got some seconds last year.
At the time it was scary though. I bought Jazz at 2 years as a replacement for my 24 year old who is her great aunt. I thought that by the time I was breaking the baby in Fayre would be slowing down.
Anyway, major flaw in my plan was that Fayre realised what I was up to and promptly started throwing herself on the ground and rolling with what I assume was colic (although could have been attention seeking as it wore off pretty quickly!).
I kept them separately with a fence between them for about 3 weeks and then they went out for a few weeks on some fresh grazing and all seemed well. They had a few tiffs but nothing major.
Then one night I noticed that Jazz's knee was huge and there was a gaping wound on the front. I put her in the stable which was a new experience for her but the vet couldnt come out until midnight due to various emergencies. By the time he got there she was stressed out of her tree and we could hardly get near her! Vet thought there might be synovial fluid leaking out so I was preparing for the worst! He said it would be big scar and might require grafts but luckily you can hardly see it now. I was religiously poulticing and bandaging though.
I do keep my girls separately all the time now! Cant take the risk. Best wishes Debbie |

Hi Jackie Congratulations on Ellie's pregnancy. Cant wait to see the pictures of the new baby.
Jazz having some time off (again!) at the moment as she developed a huge abcess the size of an orange on her jaw. Vet thinks there is a foreign body in there so she may have to go to hospital.
This horse is going to be about 23 before I get her properly broken in!!! Wish I had put her in foal this year now... feel like I have wasted a year.
Oh well... that is horses for you. Debbie |
