Boy what a stressful time. Been worrying myself silly. Freddie was really down last night and then this morning, he still wouldnt eat and even more miserable. He seemed to be ok picking at carrot cut into sticks so I decided to hang some haynets and see if he could manage to pick at hay that way. It was better but not great. Called the vet and although the dentist was booked for most of this week, I knew I couldnt wait for him so took the next available appointment. Freddie's heart, lungs and temperature were all fine although his gut was very sluggish (but then it would be if he's not eating)He is due a dental, bit sore on the right and food seems to be clumping up along the inside of his teeth on the left. The vet suggested I try a different feed completely to try and tempt him. Not to try and mix in any Simple Systems and thankfully, spoke to the dentist and got me an appointment for 2.30 tomorrow. In the meantime, Freddie is happy to be handfed the high fibre cubes but when mixed with chaff it was a no go. Dont know if thats because I had tried to mix the chaff with the SS and he connected or if the chaff is getting tangled up in his teeth. Anyway for some reason he was a lot brighter when I came back with the new feed. Ears *****ed and alert so I have turned him out with a haynet and left him munching the grass. Even if he stops eating, its all there for him and also his mates instead of being stuck in on his own - bless.
I felt very proud when the vet commended his behaviour for an arab and have realised just how much Freddie means to me. A big thank you to you all for your support. I know this is only minor but I really appreciate it.

Oh Sandi I hope he is ok. Maybe he has got something stuck at the back of his mouth, bit of feed or a small twig? Poor you worrying about him but you are doing all the right things by calling in the cavalry!

Hi Arabic, I was just wondering how old Freddie is, as I had big problems with my 2 yo and eating, it turned out he had Lampas. He is now recovered and eating well, but I still make his feeds quite sloppy, just to be on the safe side, and he loves it warmed, sometimes the gums are just too sore for them to eat, apparently this condition is most common in three yr olds, it may be worth asking the dentist to check. Unfortunatly my vet missed this and my boy was to get alot worse before he got better. He was actualy diagnosed by his breeder, who luckily knew what to do. It is so worrying when they won't/can/t eat, but I'm sure all will be ok.

Sandie, I'm sure Freddie will soon be on the mend, he sounds like a sensitive soul, bless!!
Just loved your comment on the vet saying that he was "well behaved for an arab", just goes to show the misconceptions people have of our intelligent animals (I wish I had a pound for every time a professional horse person has said that about mine, I could affort to buy Al Lahab - HAAAA HAAAA!!)
Judith, I tried to post *****ley as well - very strange!!!

Thanks everybody.
I did think of Lampas Jilly - he had it when he was 3 so I am going to ask the vet/dentist tomorrow to be on the safe side but he has been on Simple Systems for the last year which is well soaked so dont know. Anyway hopefully tomorrow will be the icing on the cake and Freddie will soon be back to his mischievious self. I will of course, let you know. Sandie
