Knew mules were tough but, WOW
Unusual behaviour but, when survival instincts kick in ....
Remember there was a report a few years ago about a sheep killing a fox that had gone after its lamb.
Sometimes animals just don't read the rule books |

Apparently in certain States in the US, they keep Donkeys or Mules to ward off coyotes and wolves, especially if they are large stud owners and raising foals. Donkeys/Mules will attack and kill coyotes/wolves if necessary, Donkeys and Mules are reknowned "protectors".
But that picture is amazing, I'm so glad someone caught it on camera!!! - Fantastic!!!

I used to work with donkeys and they can be pretty fierce!! They would chase after any dog that got in with them and would really try and strike or bite them but were usually fine with dogs on leads! Several people had also seen a group of donkeys attack a poorly donkey that was struggling to get up, they are funny animals, just so placid most of the time. I remember one year finding a well trampled snake in the horses field and have come across several squashed rats throughout the years!!

Hi Vera,
Think people need to see and read the entire citation which was:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/mulelion.asp
Not your fault, by the way, as the whole thing had me going...if I'd not read all the way to the bottom, would never have known about the shooting. One of the most poorly written clarifications I've ever encountered. Am just relieved that we are not dealing with a mutant mule who murders.... |
