In the Yearbook there's a photo of Manneki on page 79 at SERAHG - he was one of my favourite show horses many moons ago!!! I'd love to know who has him now in the hope I may get to see him one more time!! So please can somebody look him up in the show catalogue - or maybe you know his owner?

Marilyn, off topic but the picture in the AHS Yearbook of Al Lahab, you took, took my breath away. The lighting was extraordinary - it looked like a Stubbs painting - bravo! |

I LOVE that photo too!! Many thanks!! We have a big version here which I must get framed up!! It was just one of those being in the right place at the right time shots - he just posed during the initial walk round in that shaft of light and to get no-one in the backgound too...MAGIC!!! |

Thanks - Crimbo has been a favourite subject for many years - the way he posed at Bodiam Castle, walking the bridge across the moat without a fuss at all is still a vivid memory! PLEASE someone who was at SERAHG give me Manneki's owners details?! Thanks!!! |

Many thanks Chris! It would seem the caption in the Yearbook is incorrect. The link says: "Last but not lease the Veterans had a worthy winner in the shape of Maleki Ibn Almaza owned by Sheila Morgan by Manneki who belied his 25 years." but the Yearbook also says 31 years old... I'll look Manneki up... Manneki was foaled 1975 (so 31 years old this year) and Maleki Ibn Almaza 1983. Please can somebody sort out the mystery: WHO is in the photo in the Yearbook?? Thanks!!! |

It's of Al Lahab at UKIAHS p83 - not lightening - but lighting (there was a shaft of light which he just stood in!) |

Hi Marilyn
Dr Houtappel and Marian Cooke came to live at Saham Toney near Thetford when they returned from America and Marian still has Manneki and two of his daughters there. I saw them in September and he is still wonderful. Sadly he had colic when we got there and I dreaded ringing her up to see if he was OK but he has made a full recovery.
I am sure her address and tel number are in one of the recent Stud Directories. If not I can let you have them. I am sure Marian would love to see you.

Paulette, would you give Marian my very best wishes - I bought my first Arab filly from her in 1970 Shireema (Shirar x Sitara) - Surita my mare who had the awful stifle injury was Shireema's great grand daughter |

Dear Paulette Thanks for the info. I'll have to see if I can get over to Thetford soemtime next year. So that won't be Manneki in the Yearbook then - too far for him to have travelled... |

Jude I will certainly pass on your best wishes to Marian. My congratulations to Toman. He's a fabulous horse and a beautiful Arab and superbly produced. You've had well deserved success this year and no doubt will continue in 2007. I said at Towerlands that I thought I had a video of Grand but afraid I havn't though I do remember seeing him.
Marilyn no definately not the Manneki in the Yearbook. Your thread made me look back at some of my videos taken on stud visits in 1994/95.
Manneki looked great, fabulous head, eye, type, bone and movement. And some of his beautiful typey daughters out of Cora and Aviva (by Achim) and the spanish mare Kadidja. She still had these old mares and her stallion Shahzah (may not have spelt it right) and a beautiful stallion by Mubark (Egyptian) x Cora. I wished I had some of these bloodlines but my old mare did not get in foal to Manneki. I will bring the video to Malvern if you like unless I can get it copied in the meantime.

Paulette thank you so much for passing the message on to Marian - can't believe she still has the wonderful Sharzar he was by Stargard (Star Diamond x Somara) out of the beautiful Gehenna (I think) bay polish mare Marian had - she was a real super girl - will try and look up some of the old AHS mags, there is a picture of her in there.
Thank you so much for your kind words on Toman - yep he is a once in a lifetime horse and we feel so priviledged that HE OWNS US. He has done so well in the showring - some I know want us to retire him - we'll keep you all guessing for a while. He has been such a great ambassador for the Arabian horse - it's a shame to deny everyone the thought of not seeing him again |

How can you retire a horse that's at the top at only 7?? Surely not! He's one of the best adverts we've had for the Arab horse for ages. He converted loads of anti-Arab people at Horse of the Year Show. We need him out there for a few years more Jude! Don't hide him away. |

Jude Sharzar was alive when I videod them in the mid 1990's. He and the old girls are not now, just a couple of Manneki's daughters.
You must bring Toman out again next year and then hopefully some of his babies.
Very best wishes for next year what ever you decide to do.
