Like Anne, I also have no knowledge of the way the forum is run. I have even less idea of the amount of work that goes into it, not being terribly computer literate. So first I would like to say a sincere thank you to admin for all ther hard work and time.
However, I have never had the ability to see around corners, so if someone tells me something, I take it at face value and don't search for other meanings. So on the "Horses Past" thread, having been told that the reason we cant have a forum to remember our horses is that it would upset some people, I don't look for another reason. If at the same time someone had said admin have enough to do already, and this would create a lot more work, then I could have understood and would not have brought the subject up again. I really had not realised that it would create a lot more work for someone, so apologies for that. But the original reason given, i.e. it would upset some people does not really make sense to me, far easier to avoid a forum altogether if you object to its contents, than to try and avoid individual postings by members under various different threads.
I seem to have ruffled a few feathers over this, and I'm not quite sure why. I'm even more unsure why people have e-mailed their objections to admin rather than having an open discussion on the forum.
The vote has proved though that more are in favour than against. |

I hope I never have to post a RB announcement on here, but for those who administrate and police AL I can't see a lot of difference between a New Arrivals and a Rainbow Bridge section, if the understanding is that someone announces a horse's death and others can sympathise. It's a rather healthy process of support to and from like-minded people. Sales must take a lot of time to deal with - this is the best value and most obvious place to advertise an Arab. I have just rehomed one and was delighted with the results, and for that section, a big thanks. But apart from designing a new 'section' like the Quiz and New Arrivals were added (unsure of that time element) I can't see any problem. I don't breed so I seldom go on the New Arrivals bit. I don't do endurance so I don't often go there either. Moderators would be unlikely to find nasty stuff on a RB column. It's a bit like Births Marriages and Deaths, it's one of the most poplular pages of a newspaper. However if Admin are overloaded and it would mean loads more work it's perfectly acceptable to have it refused, but not because people who don't want to see it, might do by accident. They're more likely to see an upsetting thread on Discussion where it's not dedicated, than on a RB section. |

So many people have such strong feelings on this subject, and all other things aside I would vote YES...whether it makes a difference or not who knows Personally I can see the 'manhours' point of veiw and nobody would question the amount of work Lynda must put in But on the subject of AL 'controlling' the forum, I feel it's also nice to have our opinions (as members of the forum...without whom no forum would exsist) considered seriously. I'm sure you haven't ruffled feathers Annette |

After some thought on the matter, I have now changed my mind. I was always in favour of a new forum area and thought it would be nice to have a place for those we treasure and have lost. I have felt the sadness of special pets passing and also close family members. My wife Lorna died aged 23 when I was just 22, only three months after giving birth to my daughter Ashley. So I fully understand how delicate this can be.
Over the past few days I have realised that Arabianlines is not just a forum, but it is a community of wonderful people, who truly care for each other and thier animals great and small. We give support no matter what section the post is made. The way recient losses have been supported is an example of this fellowship we all have. So I now say NO.
A thought however maybee a post saying rainbow bridge in the help and support section , this could be a place to remember and leave a personal comment, memory or picture. We would all know what this section was for. No requirement to comment or reply regards its addition. just read and remember.

I have been reading this thread with interest , being an emotional softee I cry very easily when animals pass away being my own or reading about other losses. One does feel so comforted feeling the support and kind words from others during a very sad time. I fully support Stuart's comments, if we all knew where to air our thoughts and seeking comfort then why not go to the Help and support section and post 'Rainbow Bridge'. Lets go for it! KOra x |
