Saturday
3 hours travelling 2 hours schooling over a British Eventing course - 23 solid jumps to 3'3" high and repeated circuits of a 4.5 mile track 3 hours travelling home
Sunday
Competed as the only pony sized horse at a One Day Event, taking a very creditable 4th place - 2nd highest dressage score
Monday
Travelled for an hour Completed a 22 km trail ride with 18 obstacles all over 3'3" Travelled home for an hour
All in a snaffle bridle, cavesson nose band, no martingale and with an 11 year old rider. No stiffness or lameness. No tantrums or problems. Just a super, willing and safe horse!
What a cracking breed we have fallen in love with!
(Of course - it was the beautiful and talented Taragun partnered by Evie. Both having a well deserved rest - well Taz is, Evie is off to Oxford to pick up our Cleveland Bay stallion who's been having a fun filled summer with his mares)

I am almost more impressed by an 11-year-old girl doing all this than an Arab horse (after all, we kind of expect Arabs to be amazing)! Well done to both Evie and Taragun!
(Note to fellow show-horse owners: doesn't this rather put all our gold medals etc. at Towerlands into perspective? All our lot had to do last weekend was prance about on the end of a string looking pretty!) |

Thanks everyone - we got some lovely photos, so I'll see how to get one posted on here!
Couple of heart stopping moments:
One during the schooling session - we took the couse fairly slowly - walked it first, then Stephen and I walk ahead and wait for them to come and jump then they wait for us to get to the next fence and so on. Once they've gone round, we stand at a vantage point and watch the pair of them go round on their own. Well, they set off and disappeared out of sight following the Pre-Nov course. Evie talks to Taragun the whole time and we could hear her with the usual "come on pal, we can do it" then it went very quiet. We waited, and waited but they didn't appear where they should have done and we were sure they had had a fall and then we heard a loud giggle and the thunder of hooves. The little sod had only decided to take a detour round the Open course "to see what it looked like". They'd jumped a 3'8" solid fence in to a special loop on the course and had to jump all the fences in there in order to get back out again! My nerves were shot to pieces!
Then yesterday I stressed they had to take it steady round the ride because Taz would be tired. They came down a small hill towards the water jump but at the last minute Evie decided to jump the log in front and it looked like something from Jurassic Park - it was huge and knobbly and black and very, very frightening. Taz hadn't quite realised the change of direction and she was suddenly faced with this monster AT A TROT! She gulped, Evie gulped, I screamed! When I opened my eyes the pair of them were splashing though the water. And that's where the photographer was - the photo is brilliant. They'd sailed over it. When I asked what had happened and why Evie had ridden like this her answer was "you told me not to push her too hard, so I was trotting". Thank God Taz is the horse she is.
I'm really too old to be the mother of a talented young rider with ambition. Anyone seen any cheap hip flasks on ebay?????? |

LOL Aww bless the pair of them! You have every right to be pleased a punch with them both I was wondering whatever happens to that kind of bravery when you grow up? Does it just up and leave you??!! I don't remember turning into a bit of a lightweight...but somewhere along the line I did!LOL Well Done Evie and Taz. Can't wait to see the pics |

Hi Helen
She was most definitely the youngest rider in her class in the One Day Event (the others looked at least 15 years older). She wasn't the youngest on the trail ride though - there were quite a few partnerships of adult and lead rein. Made me want to ride again... |

honey she's a she! she's only about 14.2 - 14.3 but the best bit is how she's bred .By Taretta ( Ghibli/ Selinda) out of shogun ( Golden Samarui/ Fawzeia ) the best of crabbet old English bloodlines in my humble opinion of course!! lol. |

Libby - that's so kind and we would love to visit her family. Then you could meet Evie in person as well! I'll really look forward to that.
