Vera - I would guess these dates are right but it may be best to give Harriet Caudry a call at the AHS just to make sure. Sally. |

Thanks Sally .
Actually I'm finding this really UNFAIR and I'm going to climb on my soapbox. I am having to book my leave for next year because preference is being given to staff with children. HOW BLOODY DISCRIMINATING IS THAT. One of them has a daughter at collage and one in her last year of senior school and even she is being given first choice!!!!!!!!!

Vera, thats really annoying, I have 4 kids (one is grown up) but I have never expected preferential treatment, it should be first come first served in my humble opinion, Mandy. |

Vera I work in HR and that shouldn't be allowed. I would go mad if someone with children was given preferential treatment! I always take half term off cause that's when my brother goes away with his kids and takes my dad so I dog sit and wouldn't expect to be told I couldn't! They get enough preferential treatment as it is without that! |

Hi Vera,
I used to have this problem when I worked with the Civil Service (I am free of them now ) I went right up the management ladder with a complaint that I chose to have animals instead of Children - and I felt it was discrimatory (sp?) to tell someone who does not have a family that they do not have preference!! Needless to say nothing was done! But I refused to do any of the Xmas cover rota in protest! Having to book now for next August is ridiculous!!!

Just a quick note – it is now illegal to take your children out of school during term time without an authorised absence letter from the school head. You are allowed one absence session (of 1 to 5 days) during term but only with a very good reason. That is it – any other absence for family holidays will me marked as unauthorised absence. Three unorthorised absences gets you brought to the attention of social service!!!!!!!!!
Trust me – if we parents could take our holidays during term time and avoid the high cost premiums of travelling during the holidays we really would….don’t give all us parents such a hard time please

So I should miss out going to the National Show because my colleague wants the same week off and she gets it just because she got children - hardly fair is it Especially as they have masses of school holidays to choose from. Quite frankly I don't give a stuff if its illegal to keep kids out of school, it was a parents your choice to have children so why should I suffer because of that. Give parents a hard time!!!!!!!!!!!! What about my rights - oh thats right I don't have any because I don't have children .
Micelle - I thought of that it it would look realy suss wouldn't it as I've had the same week off for the last 6 years!!!!!

lol - I hear ya hunny
Hope you get your week off, you are fully correct - there are another 5 weeks of the summer hols after all! Ask the woman to move her days if they clash with yours - not like you are not giving her enough notice after all.

Have had to "book" 3 days off school for my boys in October, just before half term, purely because we are going to Rhodes and they don't do weekend flights around here, unless you have a bottomless purse!!! October is the only time of year we can leave the farm and livestock in capable hands. we're too buzy the rest of the year. We had complaints from the Head but, HEY, it's only the 2nd holiday my boys have ever had, so feel justified.
Vera, I would throw a sicky (then they might appreciate you), you owe them nothing, and as Michelle said, you are a long time dead!! |

Vera Love,
This is just for "U" and all your BOSSES.
A young man named Gordon from Fife Scotland bought a donkey from an old Farmer for £100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. When the farmer drove up the next day, he said, "Sorry son, but I have some Bad news...the donkey is on my truck, but he's dead." Gordon replied, "Well then, just give me my money back." The farmer said, "I can't do that. I went and spent it already." Gordon said, "OK then, just unload the donkey anyway". The farmer asked, "What are ya gonna do with him?" Gordon said, "I'm going to raffle him off." To which the farmer exclaimed, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" But Gordon, with a big smile on his face, said "Sure I can. Watch me. I just Won't tell anybody that he's dead." A month later the farmer met up with Gordon and asked, "What happened with That dead donkey?" Gordon said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two pounds a piece And made a huge profit" Totally amazed, the farmer asked, "Didn't anyone complain that you had Stolen their money because you lied about the donkey being dead?" Gordon replied, "The only guy who found out about the donkey being dead was The raffle winner, when he came to claim his prize. So I gave him his £2 Back plus £200 extra. This was double the going value of the donkey and he Thought I was a great guy." Gordon grew up and eventually became the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and no Matter how many times he lied or how much money he stole from British Voters, as long as he gave them back some of the stolen money, most of them Thought he was a great guy
The Moral of this story IS
DON'T let them get "U" DOWN.
If you don't win !!!!!!! CHEAT.
GO ON THE SICK
Love

My biggest gripe is that even if I do get my name in first it means diddly squat because if someone with children wants that week off too they get it regardless of when I booked it so its not even first come first served.
If it came to it I would throw a sicky, sometimes I HATE being so GODAM conscientious about my job!!!!!

Be really sneaky Vera and don't put your name on the calender, cos then "they'll" know that you want that time off, then you can have a sicky and they won't be suspicious!! Go on, you know you deserve it, and the world won't end because you're not at work. |

They will know for two reasons, 1 I've had that week of for the past 6 years (including this year) and 2 I've kicked up so much fuss about it already!!!!!!
But they'd have to prove I wasn't sick wouldn't they.
But then my manager lives in the next road to me......
