Does anyone have one of these? I am thinking about getting one but they are a lot of money for a bit of plastic.

Will it survive being chewed and trashed by a 2 year old colt and having him rub his bum on it etc every day?! Or will it be off the wall in seconds?!

Also are they as massive as they look - ie could I get away with a pony one?!

Any experiences appreciated!

I could be wrong but I think Vera has one......

Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.

Sash they are huge, you would be better with a pony one. I saw them in ingatestone and didn't think they were as sturdy as they look online. Ali would kick through it in a matter of days - and if i had the big one then he could have reared up and landed in it, which could be dangerous.

I bung his haylage on the floor.

Yep I have them and on my recommendation Sue Bundy and Sally Etchells have them now. They are brilliant, VERY tough and withstand Dennis rubbing his bum on his!!!

They look big until you see them fixed to the wall. I really can't say anything bad about them!!! Sue - Sally what say you?

I find them very useful.

allows the horse / pony to get their hay at the right level

Even the boys can not break them

About £50 depending on where you get them. Seems expensive at first but mine have paid for themselves as I don't waste any more hay.

The topic has been discussed several times on here, Search on the word Haybar and you'll see.

See I would really like to get some, but no good for my stallion or mares with foals on (large haybar could easily accomodate 1 whole foal bum end first!) - but for the mares they would be fine.

Yes, thanks to Vera and Caroline (who has them) they are great, we have 6 here.

I find it so heavy to lift haylege into a rack or even haynets, this way I just plonk it in the hay bar.
For the fatties in life or piggies, I have a small holed hay net, and still hang that over the hay bar to catch the debri.

My biggest and heaviest mare has sat on it and rubbed her bum on hers, and it's still intact.
My colt never chews it, never kicks it, just eats from it, very tidy he is too.

My giant foal born this year, is so big he has a lovely habit of pooing in his, so it doubles as a toilet and keeps your stable very clean

Thankyou Vera, my arms and neck have recovered and I am in no pain now!

I have one formy stallion - total waste of time and money as hes prefers hishay all over the floor. Yes the perfect height for rubbing his bum. They are huge but not when in place. Make very good rug racks!!!

I have a home made one my son knocked up for me. I think there is even some instructions online somewhere as to how to make them. They are quite expensive for what they are. I know some people have made them from palattes but mine is rubber. Either way, I wouldnt be without mine. Works a treat, even have pics of Freddie buried to his ears in hay trying to get the best bits at the bottom!!

The hay bars are super, unfortunately, I wet my hay and have wooden stables, so cant use them any more due to ruining the wood!

I thought I'd try one - got the pony size as the other seemed huge. Caused quite an interest to my older 'set-in-his-ways' stallion, kept him amused for hours whilst he examined it thoroughly, took all the haylage out, then put some back in, he was quite wasteful prior to having this hay-bar preferring to eat his hay looking over his door, dropping most of it on the yard, since the hay-bar he munches over it happily and wastes little. Will be buying more for the others when I can afford it. When fitted they are quite robust, but mine has not really been put to the test of a 'thug' or destructive individual, still a shame that they are so expensive.

Hi,

I wouldn't be without them,I think they're fab, one of those simple ideas that we should have come up with years ago!

They do seem expensive initially, but save alot on wasted hay, and no worries of hay being spread into shavings etc.

The pony size are adequate for those who don't want the bigger ones.

Hello Sasha!

Mine also doubles up as a rug rack in much the same way that my exercise machine at home is handy for hanging ironing on (not ironed obviously!)
