Prince of Orange
By Roxan by Count Rowland
ex Corn Marigold by Zehros

I was very sad to hear that The Prince of Orange, Michael Harris' stallion at Combe Farm has passed away earlier this year at the grand age of 31.

He was one of Michaels first arabians and in his day won many prizes including being the only horse to stand above El Shaklan in England, Oranges ended up second to the BNC El Shaklan. Everyone at Combe Farm has learnt to ride on him and I am sure he will always hold a place in everyones heart there.

He has sired some truly beautiful horses with great characters, including Grey Woodnymph who was one of the most beautiful British National Champions. All his progeny have the most wonderful temperaments including the lovely Frosted Orange and my own Astral Knight - I only hope that they both go on to the ripe old age of 30 odd.

My sincere condolences to all at Combe Farm.

Louise

OH no!!!!! He was my dream! What really got me into Arabs. If I never read Jinny and copied all his pictures as a child! I knew every marking and used to draw him everywhere, all over my school books. I really wanted a chestnut Arab mare, after finding my jaz, she was my Shantih. I found out Jaz and orange were cousens!!!! It was ment to be I found her!

I'm so sorry to everyone concerned. He was something special, I thank him for the love I have for Arabs. Rest in peace boy. Always love you x x x

Condolences to all connections. I remember seeing him at Kempton a few years back being ridden before the races in traditional costume and thinking what a wonderful horse he was.

This is so sad, and what a beautiful horse. I didn't know he was 'Shantih' though!

My condolences to everyone affected.

I am going to raid my mum's cupboard for my old Jinny books to have another look.

Hi everyone, I would like to thank all of you who put such nice comments about Oranges on the forum on behalf of Michael and everyone at combe farm. Oranges was a very special horse who was dearly loved by everyone. To the end he was a cheeky chap looking to escape his stable given half the chance, most of us learnt to ride on him, he was the first horse I fell off!! Not that I was the only one!! he would suddenly dive at a piece of grass and if you weren't carefull you went straight over his head!! Thankyou for all your tributes to him, as with Hawk Moth it won't be the same when we next have an open day.

I have a vague recollection of seeing some sort of documentary type programme from years ago (late 70's early 80's) featuring Oranges. All I can remember is him letting himself out of his stable and going for a wander. Anyone recall seeing this programme and what it was about?

I clapped until my hands stung when I saw Hawk Moth at Malvern. Very fitting ovation for such a grand old gentleman.

Hi Catherine

That family certainly are escapologists aren't they!! Astral Knight was 19 this year and is definatly getting cheekier and naughtier to ride as he gets older! He too has a babit of shooting off and puttong in a naughty buck every now and again.

I am sure he has left lots of memories for you all and I know he is truely missed.
Love
Louise
