I'm sorry all but I had to bring this to people's attention, there just aren't words for this...
After watching the McCartney program last night on the use of fur I ventured onto the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) site. I knew it wouldn't make pleasant reading but it is far too easy to turn a blind eye to what goes on in the world. Please take some time to browse the site. I have included the address of the turkish horses page but try to look at the entire site and do whatever you can to help. Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this

http://www.petatv.com/skins.html (the fur farms footage is truly shocking so please only view if you are feeling very emotionally strong, cry, feel sick, be appalled (I did) then do something about it, I just donated)
Just had to add a little bit on, thank you to those who have already started to do something about this, it is far too easy to watch/read and simply be horrified. It is liberating and as they say 'information is power' BUT that alone doesn't help their cause if we simply sit aghast. I have in the past seen numerous campaigns and just been 'too busy' to do anything about it there and then. Please try to take the time to email/write or even donate. We are their only hope and maybe one day we can put an end to all of this. x.

I watched the documentary on Wednesday....Im still traumatised by it, that man skinning the german shepard while it was alive, the crates of Kittens being thrown from the top of the lorry....etc etc...the programme was meant to shock and needed to be graphic so that WE the public take action. Until this barbaric trade is stopped in China I will not buy anything made etc from there. I would never buy fur fake or real. I have been onto the Heather Mills Mcartney website and signed her petition. Im far too sickened to watch anymore torture so I wont be watching anymore. Words fail me really.....sad and sickened. Lets try to do all we can to stop this. Mandy |

Me too Mandy, I can't get the sound of the Germans Shepards cries out of my mind. I tried to watch the video of the horses being bled to death but I had to stop it. I'm not squeamish but words fail - apparently it must be cheaper to buy the horses and bleed them to death rather then pay to feed and keep them and bleed them regularly like they do in America.
I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I don't think there is a difference between FARMED animals for fur and FARMED animals for meat. As long as they are kept in appropriate conditions etc. I wouldn't wear fur myself but think that as long as the animal is treated and killed humanly then there is little difference. It is an entirely different ball game bludgening wild seal pups, polar bears, big cats, domestic cats, dogs etc etc.

I have posted on this subject already on Taylor's thread in the Tea & Coffee bit.
I had unfortunately seen the skinning of the German Shepard before and I shut my eyes when this was shown again on Wednesday but like Vera and I am sure many others, I cannot get the poor creatures cries and whimpers out of my mind.
I do agree with Vera though that I don't see much difference between animals that are farmed for their pelts or for their meat. What is paramount is the way in which these animals are kept and ultimately killed. If they must be killed, it should be done in the most humane way possible.
I do find it extremely frustrating that barbarism of this kind is carrying on right NOW and all I can do is sign a few petitions and write a few more letters whilst the people who do have the power to make the skinning of live animals illegal, DO NOTHING!?

I too totally agree with Vera and Stella on this subject. I was absolutely horrified at the treatment of those poor dogs and kittens and the racoons, who had their heads smashed on the concrete in order to kill them! This video of the horses being bled to death, just about sums up all the people who abuse and kill animals, domestic and wild in the majority of cases these animals come from countries that are far behind ours and the rest of the West (although I know that we are not all perfect in the West, i.e., seals in Canada), they treat their animals as if they were stuck in the dark ages, medieval!!
I too cannot get out of my mind the howls of terror from that poor german shepherd. I will be writing to the people concerned on the Peta website. Nicky |

I feel so much better seeing the responses on this thread. If we all push, then maybe.... Have to add that the footage of the Alsatian is very tame compared to the fur footage on the PETATV (www.petatv.com) site. I am glad I watched it though as it has really given me the kick in the b** that I needed to actually try to help rather than just being horrified then trying to dismiss it.
I know that anyone who can bear to watch it will be compelled to do something and if that's what it takes then do it. Ignorance is bliss I agree but what we have seen on the TV really is the tip of the iceberg. |

I am so sorry I cant watch it, I am not supposed to have stress with my heart, but I do know what goes on and has been going on for years, and unfortunatly we can do very little if anything to stop it. other cultures dont see animals the way we do, they see them as providing meat and skins and thats how they live, they do not think about the suffering they cause . just how do you educate people who are tring to feed their families ? it will take decades for things to change, but hats off to all who at least try, I subscibe to as many animal charities as I can , sign petitions, would walk to spain and back if I thought it would change things. Our one small voice has to overcome tradition's that have lasted thousands of years and human beings are the only ugly things on this planet. |

This is truly horrific and my 1st reaction is to rant and rage but I have learned this does no good. You have to keep calm and plan your action very carefully and within the laws of which ever country these barbaric acts are taking place. I was an unfortunate bystander & witness to a ritual killing and was shocked to the core at how blatant some people can be, they probably thought I was some kind of mad woman screeching at them! I've seen "live food" dispatched at restaurants in China and the only thing I can say is "At Least it's quick"
On the plus side I have also been fortunate enough to see what good work is being done in some of our 'less educated countries'! I also sign most petitions going and hope in some small way it will help, this is all I can do as to be in the front line and dealing with this daily would finish me or I'd get locked up!!!
Well done to the heros who suffer these sights every day in their normal working life, they have a huge pat on the back from me and a willing pen
Happy and once again healthy Moon Bears, free of metal catheters and cages. How cool are they |

Horrific, barbaric there are not enough words to express the treatment of these poor animal. I started to watch the video clip of the horse but had to stop, it made me sick to my stomach. These people don't deserve the right to be called humans. I'm going to email and post this to other people who I know will respond the same way as we all have. |
