Hi
Your mare is nearly all crabbet/old english bloodlines with a line to Nuhra. Interesting pesdigree as both parents tail female line is to Dafina - I've always been interested in this line as the Arab mare I used to ride as a teenager was of this line and it was researching her pedigree that got me hooked on Arabs. She was actually a half sister of El Zain which is what caught my eye on your post. I knew Zain as a young mare, she was bred by Angela Schofield who owned the Riding School where I learnt to ride. Zain was by Mrs Schofields stallion Merry Moments (El Meluk/Magic Moments)out of Shamiha (Rajmek/Salonda). A few of the lines wouldn't qualify as Crabbet but definately Old English. Nuhra was the foundation mare of The Barton Lodge Stud - there was an interesting thread about her recently. Your mare is descended through Rajmek.
Hope this information is of use.

Hi Amanda
Dafina was presented to Lady Wentworth by King Ibn Saoud in 1927.
There was an article on Dafina and the El Krush strain by Peter Upton in the winter 1986 AHS News, if you don't have a copy I could scan it and e mail to you. I knew quite a few of Shamiha's family, Zain was her first foal, she then had El Fareda by Hanif (known as Zena - this was the mare I used to ride), El Nefertiti by Vathek (mare), Ringing Magic by Ringing Echo (gelding), El Soud by Cranleigh Red Shadow (gelding), Zellah Zam by Merry Moments (Colt) and Navihra by Cairo (mare)I don't think she had any more foals after this.
The only other horses of this strain I have known was one of the Jenkins' mares Michelle (Miksham/Roulette) and her Procyon daughter Eschelle.
The most well known of Dafina's foals was Dafinetta by Naziri who was bought by the Moynes. Another daughter Ryama by Nurreddin II was exported to Russia in 1936 along with several other Crabbet horses so there are some Russian horses of this strain.
As this was the strain that got me hooked on Arabs I have always thought that I would like to do some research and trace all Dafina's descendants and talking about it has got me going again!! Might actually get started!
Let me know if you'd like the article.
Jackie

My old Boy,Zac, alas no longer with us, was by Ringing Echo x El Zain! Feeling very nostaligic now, he was lovely, gentle and the most affectionate horse I have ever known and I still miss him very much. |

Hi Hollyhill
I remember Zac as a foal!! We called him Mouse as he was very timid. Unfortunateley Mrs Schofields mares and foals used to just get turned out for the summer and got very little handling until they were weaned. I do remember him as being very sweet though. My friend had Ringing Magic who was by Ringing Echo out of Zain's dam Shamiha, he was also lovely. As you have probably read I used to ride Zain's half sister by Hanif - El Fareda (known as Zena) and it was this family and researching Zena's pedigree that got me hooked on Arabs. I learnt to ride at Mrs Schofields Riding School and the Arabs were her special horses, we all used to swoon over Merry Moments (known as Charlie), I remember being allowed to lead him in from the field one day and feeling so priviliged! and I felt very honoured to be allowed to look after Zena. Zena slipped her foal in 1978 and she was backed, she was used for escorting rides at the local YMCA centre during the summer and then I had her to ride during the winter - she had a fantastic temperament. She was sold in 1980 to a family near Stockbridge, Hants, I know she was sold on a few years later but lost touch with her.
Rabbiting on a bit now but this has also made me very nostalgic, looking back to my first Arab family but frightening to think it was 30 odd years ago!!

Will have a look, if I have they might not be very good as pre-digital age and my photography skills weren't very good as a teenager! But I'll see what I can find.

Hi Jackie, its so lovely to hear from someone who new Mouse as a baby! I bought him from Angela when he was about 18 months old and sadly lost him to Cushings/Laminitis aged 26. He was such a super boy and I loved him to bits - still do actually! He is buried under a weeping willow tree in the paddock next to his best mate Hollyhill Super Ted (Teddy). I've got masses of photos so will scan something and send it to the 'Bosses' to put on here, or I can email you direct if you like.
I have got one old photo of Zain that was sent to me by a lady who used to own her down in the West Country if I remember - but like you say, its a lot of years ago now! It would be wonderful to see some pics of Mouses's brothers/sisters if there are any. I may be wrong here but I have seen Ringing Harmony who I think was by Echo but not sure now. |

Hi all, i've had a rumage and found these for starters:
Ringing Magic (Ringing Echo/Shamiha)About 4/5 years old, Yours truly on board!!
Zena (El Fareda) - (Hanif/Shamiha) Please don't laugh at my hat - according to the back of the photo it was Jan 1979! so Zena was almost 7.
Rizanna (Nazir/El Zain) from The Arabian Horse by Rosemary Archer
I've two days off work now so will have a deeper rumage and see what I can find.
I'd love to see some pictures of Mouse all grown up - my e mail is jackie@taranaki.plus.com

Hi Jackie
As you are interested in the Crabbet/old English lines I was wondering if you knew much about the following Mare "Crystal Gleame", she is by "Gleam of Flame" out of "Masbut Bint Malika"
I bought her 3 years ago very cheaply as she was in a bad state phyisically and Mentally. She is now an intermediate endurance horse and a sweety although you still have to watch her.

I remember Rizanna when she was with Lynn Cornish. She was an amazing little mare. Could turn her hand to any discipline.. I have always wondered if she ever had a foal. I do not know if anyone on here would know. |
