I have an enquiry on behalf of a friend. She has an Arab x Percheron called Maybe of Woodhouse (born 1991). She is out of an Arab mare named Pleasure and cannot find out if this mare was registered.
The only information they have is that Pleasure might be from Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Can anyone help, please?

It certainly is....I would love to have a go at crossing an arab with a percheron myself. Percherons have such fantastic temperaments and, as crosses, make excellent sport horses. I know of one that is doing prix st george in dressage.
Here are a couple of piccies of Maybe of Woodhouse (Arab x Percheron)
Her owner is trying to show her at county shows but AHS wont accept her as she is not registered and they cant help her with the dam (pleasure). She managed to contact the breeder but she bought Pleasure without papers.

She's lovely. Only thing I can think of is putting an appeal out in the local horsey mag (which I do a column for by coincidence!). Do you know how old she is? Has she always been around Warwickshire? |

Thanks, Roseanne. I will speak to Maybe's owner. I dont think they know how old Pleasure is as the breeder purchased her without papers. The breeder cant give anymore information, unfortunately. It is such a shame as Maybe is registered as a part bred Percheron but they also want to show her as a part bred Arab. |

Then wouldn't the registration at the Percheron Society have more breeding details? |

No, they only have an interest in the percheron side and the stallion was registered so they were quite happy to register Maybe as part bred percheron. |

Hi, the owner of Pleasure was a Mrs Isles and Maybe's owners have already spoken to her. She could not throw any light on Pleasure as she purchased her without papers.
I know it all sounds very vague, but it was just a long shot to see if anybody had known of a mare called Pleasure. I will see if I can get anymore details, but I don't think that they want to keep pestering Mrs Isles....

I have been given a little more information. Maybe's owners have confirmed that Pleasure was a bay mare and that Maybe was born April 1991 and was born at Redhouse Stud, Woodhouse Farm, Redhill, Telford.
Many thanks. |

Thanks Chris, but I don't think that it is. I have been doing a search and there is also a Redhouse Arabian stud in Ashford, Kent.
This mare was definately at Telford in Shropshire. I believe they are now called Hancocks Horses Ltd? Seems to be the same address. |

i was only taking to a friend on tuesday who is thinking of buying a percheron mare to put to my grey stallion.
i can't help you on the mare as pleasure possible isn't her real name if she is registed. in cases like this i think the ahs should allow people to dna test horses to see if anything comes up in the data base as a possible match. at least that way you could contact people, ie breeders and such to see where the mare came from. |

Hi All
Thank-you everyone for your help. As Maybe's Mum I find it very frustrating as you can imagine as she does very well in the Part-Bred Classes, not being able to progress with her. I have contacted the lady who owned Pleasure only to find that they bought her without papers although they tell me she was definatly a Pure-Bred Arab. Pleasure,Maybe's mother rejected Maybe at birth, and went on to have another foal which she also rejected and both had to be hand reared. After this Pleasure was sold on but I have no details on where and to whom.
If this rings a a bell with anyone out there please let me know. Regards Alison |
