I am tentatively considering putting my PBA out on loan or lwvtb i would like advice and experiences please .More so as he is 9yo that needs restarting thankyou

I have done x2 loans with view to buy and both have worked very successfully.
Do get it in writing though without fail I was happy for the owner to be in touch and come and view the horses at any time if there is any reluctance to do so then go with your gut feeling !

Be realistic about how much he is worth, say £1000 have it in writing so both party's know where they stand, set the Loan part, say 3 months again so both party's know. With a loan both view to buy, you won't be able to take your horse back unless the loner/ buyer decides that horse is not for them or until the loan is over and they decide that they don't want to but it.
Like other have said you will get good and bad people, the same as you get good and bad owners! In the past I did loan with view to buy, I dident get the price in writing and when the loan ended I then could not afford the horse as she had gone up in price to £2500 in stead of the £1500 that was agreed at the time of the loan. To add insult, I then had to pay to return the horse! That I had worked on and schooled and had lessons on for the past year. |

You can download a loan agreement from BHS, amend where applicable. I loaned a mare which although she was looked after very well, turnout was my one of my requirement, half in half out, sadly the yard didn't allow turnout if there was a bloody cloud in the sky! Back she came!
Unannounced visits are a must imo and references as mentioned above:)

I have put a couple of mine out on loan in the past and found good people and bad when loaning. I advise you do home checks, ask for references from their vet, farrier, livery yard if they are on one, trainers etc. If they are genuine people they will not mind you asking , also get them to come out a few times so you can see how they get on before you let them take him. And once he's with them go and check up on him just to be sure he's ok. Good luck . |
