Posted - 10 Sep 2014 : 6:27:50 PM I am sure this has been asked before, but here goes My 2 year old gelding (he was two end of July 2014) is just touching 14hh, mom and dad are 15hh, so hoping he is going to make about 15hh too (feel free to asure me he will lol). I am 5'7 and 10.6 stone, do you guys think i will be ok on him? my other horse is a 16.3hh warmblood lol.
Any pictures of anyone 5.7 riding a 15hh arab would be great
I dont think he is going to be a wide arab, he is quite narrow and riding horse type in looks
thanks |

Posted - 11 Sep 2014 : 2:10:23 PM Heehee Callisto! I was looking at your first photo and then read the caption to your second photo but only had the top half of that on view. I was extremely impressed for a moment ..... until I scrolled down. What a fool I am, heeheehee.
I should add that I was still very impressed by all your lovely photos. |

Well, sort! I have two full sisters, one just about 14 3" and the other 16 hands, the small mare has a pink nose, the big mare hasn't, chalk and cheese. They both went to Ansata Qasim. The big mare had a colt with a pink nose which hardly made 14 3", the small mare had a filly with no pink on her nose who is now about 15 1". If I hadn't seen them both born (on different nights I would have sworn that they had swapped foals!!! Had I been to a stud and seen the foals and mares in a field with the foals away from their mums I would have just know who was the dam of each foal - and I would have been wrong.
We can go by what the lines produce and the size of the sire and dam as foals can be a similar size at birth but seem to stop growing much at different ages and we also have to consider the grand and great grand parents and that is often where certain features come from. Also you have to think that small people often think the horse in front of them is bigger than it is; when you are 5 foot nothing a 14 2" looks a nice size; when you are 5 7" a 14 2" looks tiny!
I have a mare who is 15 3" out of a 14 2" mare and 14 3" stallion; her size comes from grandparents.
saracoco, arabs ride "big" so you will feel fine and they are know for their weight carrying ability. Before I rode an arab I always rode huge horses. First few rides on an arab felt a bit small but once I got used to the size it was great and as I am just under 5 3" everything was so much easier, especially getting on and off!
You will be fine on your boy.

Magic, two in April 15.0 now expected mature hight 14.2 Sapphire two in March again 15.0 now, expected mature hight 14.3, full sister is 16.00 as a 3 year old. Honey two at the end of July 14.00 expected to mature between 15- and 15.2 can't see it happening. Lylia two in May. 12.3 now expected to mature to 13.2 plus again can't see it!
The hight of the mature horse is what the breeders thought they would make as foals. |

Posted - 10 Sep 2014 : 8:45:34 PM My 15hh arab is being schooled by a 5ft9 rider at the moment and their leg is taken up really well as my mare is quite wide. She's actually had a 6ft4 rider on in the past (very skinny teenager) and he didn't look stupid on her - which did surprise me. |
