Sorry this is a bit self indulgent but I feel utterly low and fed up not being able to ride Dulcie most days after work and the weekends. She pulled up lame near the end of the 64k ride at Ashdown Forest at the beginning of August and two lots of scans have shown no ligament or tendon damage but she has a huge lump above her fetlock which is damage to her digital sheath. The vet is pleased that that is all it is and thinks she will come right after a long rest. She is out in the field now and walking soundly but still lame and so I expect she'll be off for the rest of this year. After tying up badly at Golden Horseshoe it's been a mixed year. Trouble is I miss her loads and she is fed up too. She so enjoys her long hacks and has so much enthusiasm, especially at endurance rides.

My work is very busy and pretty stressy but looking forward to riding her most days makes it all worth while! I love being fit and getting loads of fresh air after being in the office.

Sadly Daisy my young cob is only 2 and a bit so she won't be backed for a long time and I bought her for my wonderful friend who helps look after the horses then there's Morph - he'd love endurance but he's only 37"

I have been thinking of another ridden arab, maybe on long term loan.

I certainly know now that I couldn't do without my horses but I didn't realise I'd feel this bad about not riding.

Arabiangem I couldn't have said it better!
There are days I don't ride and after all I only ride one of them but spending time with them anyway is almost more important.(well I am sure it IS more important for them!)
Good luck with Dulcie,Caro!

I really do empathise Carole...My outcome with Saladin as you may or may not know was that he was PTS 6 weeks ago, and with not even him to look after let alone ride I feel really miserable! I am looking at other horses which gives me an excicted feeling but then for one reason or another are not for me, giving me a feeling of the opposite. Being without a horse to look after has made me realise that it is not just the riding that's important but the bond and closeness and relationship and the looking after that is hugely important and riding is a bonus on top of that. I just want a horse to look after and want to take my time with brining him/her on so that I can eventually ride. I am at a complete loss at home and hope I find the right one soon for my welbeing! Good luck with Dulcie and finding another to ride in the meantime. We are all different and you have to do what is best for you and your health too!

I empathize with anybody with their horse out of action you miss them so much. If on box rest that adds to the nightmare as poor horse takes so much looking after in time and worry. I had the most stressful 6 wks ever when Ari had a field accident and I didn't have to worry about the outcome as vet gave 100% positive prognosis and still I was a basket case, picking grass and spending as much time with him as I could as he hated being in.
Being on a small friendly yard I had kind offers to ride out and it really helped my sanity.

I feel just the same Caroline and Sarah.
I'm pretty sure the riding keeps me off the happy pills! I hate not riding and I know I'm being a brat. Spider is just coming back into work so I have my fingers crossed he'll stay sound. Honestly I've felt much more cheerful these last few days just riding him up the road and back.

Welcome to my world! I haven't actually neen out on Shesky since a pleasure ride in September 2012! I did manage 2 lessons at the beginning of 2013 but then he has been on box rest since April and now only just starting walking out.

I don't have the time (or money) for another as my evenings are taken up by hand grazing, grooming, washing, fussing, herb picking ect... even off work Shesky is very time consuming

I'm so sorry that Dulcie is still out of action, I know just how frustrating it can be. Perhaps it is a good idea to consider a long term loan, I suppose the only caveat would be whether you would want to compete two when Dulcie is back to full fitness. On the other hand it would be exciting to start another one on its endurance career

empathy from me too! I think you are too far away but I am lucky to have several to ride now and you would be welcome to ride/compete one in endurance. I'm on the Welsh borders.

I would feel the same too. I ride every day and really miss it if either of the horses have to have time off or I'm not well and can't ride.

Sounds like you need to give another Arab a lovely new home

I would feel the same when you are used to riding everyday and then have to suddenly stop it really makes you realize how much you love it, do you have any friends nearby that have a horse you could ride a few times a week until your horse is sound? It might just be enough to satisfy your urge.
