Looking at my horsey winter wardrobe. Any recommendations on thick or fleece lined jods/breeches? Or any water resistant ones?
I cant wear chaps over my jods as storm would freak at the rustling noise. Hes got better but still not quite there.
Other thing I need to find is gloves. Someone said sealskinz? |

It is also worth looking at Cyclist clothing on amazon or ebay for cheap jackets and undertights etc.
Also wearing a Buff snood thing is good - a non-flappy neck warmer and you can pull it up over your face and wear it comfortably under your riding hat to keep your ears warm. For a more traditional look a silk headscarf works very well too  , but not stretchy like a Buff. |

Musto Snug Jods are the best but are no longer made. Any you find are worth buying as the material is too expensive to make now, I spoke to Musto. So I bought about 6 pairs cheap at the summer shows. Just thought I'd share, if like me, you don't like any other jods, see any buy them! |

I really like Mark Todd Winter Gloves with the Thinsulate Lining, not waterproof, but stay pretty warm even when they get wet, I saddle soap the leather outers to stop them getting stiff, a pair lasts me a couple of winters, but I do muck out in them as well as ride. I have just bought a pair of Macwet Climatec gloves for the rain which I have not tried yet - I understand from the reviews that they are not the warmest of gloves but great in the wet - you don't have to take them off to do buckles etc. I don't plan to muck out in those ones.
Runner's tights (found them cheap in TK Maxx) under your jods work very well to keep you warm. Personally I found the Dublin winter over trousers a bit bulky, but they certainly keep you toasty. I have the Lunarider fluorescent chaps, and they are fleece-lined and I don't find them noisy to wear - they are my preferred leg covering, unless I wear my Toggi long riding coat (drovers coat style), which is excellent because it is warm and covers the saddle and my thighs.
Edited to add, the runners tights are footless, I find riding in conventional tights under jodphurs too tight around the feet, which leads to cold feet. Have been wearing thermal vests for years, and also have some really good Joules thermal long johns which I bought in a sale a few years ago. I wear my beloved Ariat Glacier boots to keep my feet warm, and due to the other post about Aigle wellies I have just replaced my 14 year old neoprene lined ones (still ok when just cold but no longer completely waterproof) with a new pair - I have tried a couple of other brands of neoprene lined wellies (Hunter and Dublin) because I was too tight to buy the Aigles, but frankly it was a false economy. The Aigles are so much more warm and comfy and last 3 or 4 times as long at least. |

Have a look at Dublin, they do a full padded trouser with zips up both outside legs, like a cross between jods and chaps. They are REALLY warm and no exposed bottom to get cold lol. They have been pretty good in the rain too. Mine cost about £25 two years ago and are still in really good condition |

I had a pair of full suede chaps and they were amazing to keep warm. Got them when I was 13 and only just ditched them 4 years ago at 29. Ive not seen another pair anywhere though. They all seem to be the waterproof ones with fleece lining. Same with the musto snug jods. I used to have them but didnt think they did them anymore.
Ari not your age..past couple of winters I have been wearing long johns or fleecey leggings under waterproof trousers on bottom half and thermal long sleeved vest, t shirt, thick hoodie, gilet and coat on top!
Last year storm had been turned away but this year Id liek to keep him ticking over. Still wont be doing much, prob only 2 or 3 times a week...weather dependent! (Im fair weather, lol...so is he) |

My tip is to buy ski jackets off ebay as they are waterproof and exceptionally warm and are much better at keeping you warm and dry in bad weather and save you a fortune.
Asda do long socks two for £4.50 l buy loads of if these and wear them out over the winter. Great as they don't leave line marks in your legs if you have to look presentable after stable duties in dress or skirt.
Thermal jods a must but Musto are expensive and as yet not available. Looking for viable alternative!!!

The Musto snug jods are very good well worth the money. I have Mark Todd chaps very warm and not noticed them rustling. The suede chaps sound fabulous though. I hate riding in gloves but needs must in winter and I like my Sealskinzs, don't do jobs in them as too expensive but they are the best I've had for riding, done a winter with no damage.
I use the fluffy "lounge" socks to keep feet warm. They don't last long but cheap enough from ASDA or similar. Must be my age as I have worn thermal long sleeved vests last few winters. Takes me ages to get dressed when the weather is bad lol.
Lucky with my boy who doesn't give a care what I wear but my pal has an otherwise bombproof cob who hates hi viz jackets.

Warm, waterproof and definitely NO rustling

I love my Musto snug johds but they are not cheap, I find my equitector boots good as if my feet are warm I dont feel the cold as much!
I like the idea of fleecy under trousers!
The sealskinz are good but they are quite stiff and not very durable, no my sisters are fine but she doesn't do yard duties in them but I get distracted and the fingers have worn! |

I tend to wear full suede chaps in winter they are really warm, or the quited over trousers they don't rustle too much, I also cannot have any waterproof noisy clothing or rain sheets they freak him out, if i just want to wear jodhpurs without freezing i buy the fleece leggings from primark and wear them under jodpurs. |
