I know rugs have been done to death but just wondering if anyone has any experience of the Bucas Multi-power turnout?
Is it warm in freezing weather? Im looking to invest in a more expensive rug now that my boys growing has slowed down. I love fals as I think they are so warm, robust and last years. So Im considering fals, bucas, premier equine, horseware.
Like the idea of liners in the premier equine.
I dont want weatherbeeta, shires, derby house or masta. I dont feel they are warm enough. I also want one with a detachable neck cover and at least 1000 denier outer. |

Bucas & Amigo are the only types of rugs I use.

I love amigo best money i spent on Mouse, it was great nice and comfy and brilliantly waterproof and easy to dry didn't take long at all. Mouse also had a zebra print rug it was fantastically thick, i bought it off ebay brand new but i don't no what the make was maybe a foreign one? I will find out my friend now dresses her arab cross in it :-) |

I bought the Mark Todd Delux heavy weights with neck for my girls, had them for two winters now, last yr was their first time out 24/7 and these rug was fantastic. They also have a liner in them that make the coat shine it also smooths the mane, I bought them a Robinson medium rug with neck but these rubbed my girls manes!  never had this with the mark Todd. |

I ended up buying a premier equine. Really impressed with quality and seems to be a good warm/snug rug. So test will be when its cold enough to start using. Thought PE was a good in between money wise as he still needs to fill out so wouldnt be surprised if he goes up another size once fully grown.
PE do a couple that are designed to give wither relief. |

Any advice on rugs for my 15.1 Arab with high wither and deep neck to chest? Tried him in Horseware Ireland 6:3 and still wither pressure when head in grazing position. |

I love the Amigo`s but have to go up a size or they are too tight across their chest !
I am also very impressed with the Axiom combo turnouts , they are brilliant ,they are warm & waterproof & with their tent tail flap they keep mine well protected in the worst winter weather |

I have Had Pessoa rugs for years, fab rugs about 12-14 years old now and still going strong. Never leaked, very adjustable at the fronts, never moves and has never needed reproofing, And I know your not a fan of shires but I love them as well, got about 4 now, never ever leaked or moved, don't rub and even though they don't feel thick they are exceptionally warm, my girl lives out in a medium weight with neck and has always been very toasty even in the coldest weather and she has a very fine coat. Big thumbs up from me concidering their cost. |

I'm another Horseware Ireland fan. The Rambos or Amigos with detachable liners and necks work really well. The most recent one I bought for my mare was lightweight outer of 100g, and then I got a 100g liner, but you can get 200g and 300g I think so totally adaptable to the weather.
This winter my stallion has a lovely new Schnieders turnout rug though so am looking forward to using that |

Horseware do a big neck cut (called the XL I think) but I'm not sure if the Rambo comes in that style. They do a Quarter horse cut Rambo and QH's are chunky on the shoulders, so that might be worth looking into.
ETA - going up a size as you suggested might work and be the easier option. |

I have had Rambo rugs for years and can't fault them for wear or protection from the weather until my current dilemma in that my boy measures 6 ft but he has outgrown them in the neck chest area and I am very carefull of him being comfortable over his withers when grazing (so many horses suffer silently with this).He is broad and deep with a good wither, all good for choice of saddle but not rugs on a short coupled Arab. Am thinking of trying a 6.3 that maybe a tad long but fits the front end, gratefull of any advice. |

altex has a lining that's supposed to be good for your horses coat, however mine looked like rough coated dachshunds after wearing them for a SHORT time.... luckily Bucas holds good value on second hand market, needless to say it got a new home VERY quickly.... worst £140 I ever spend. |

No I am pretty sure it was the Freedom - advertised as waterproof and breathable. Fine for the odd light shower, but no good for rain of any medium to heavy amount. It was worse than his old Derby House which cost a quarter of the price of the Bucas.

Was the Bucas rug that leaked the Sunshower? If so I agree that it's not a good rug - I had forgotten about it.
I never had an Altex - luckily.  |

Really liked Buzz's Bucas rain sheet (or light turnout if you prefer), but during last week's deluge it leaked quite badly after only 4 hours of use, which didn't impress me much.
Have now ordered him a Premier Equine Bustino Lite turnout with neck (was on offer with 40 % off), because it has the attachments inside to add the liners. I will be using the liner from his Rambo Duo rug which he has trashed after 4 years, nice rug though. I went with PE this time because the Rambo was a bit tight on his chunky form, and I think the PE ones are tougher. I already have a padded PE neck I can put on it when it gets colder (also bought in a PE sale to replace his trashed Rambo one)
I have the PE Trio rug for Lily which I really like, and has never leaked. It is long down the sides and I have had to knot up the surcingles but she is well covered when she is wearing it. Downside is that it is a heavy rug with the liners in because the base rug is a 40 gram and the outer is thick and tough. I have never had to add the thickest liner, she is a pretty warm soul, with this in mind I have bought her the same model as Buzz's above, for autumn and spring (will add liners as necessary). It is so easy to just pop the liners in the washing machine to clean them, and I like the versatility. You can use them in the stable as well, although personally I like to put stable rugs on to give them a break from wearing the same rug, and of course to check them all over twice a day. On the other hand I don't stress about them wearing them over night if I am not there and someone else just pops them in and feeds them. |

stay clear of Bucas alltex 2000 the worst rug I have ever owned! |

I love the Rambo Duo, so light and easy. My friend swears by the Bucas rugs, she has a horse that doesn't seem to be able to control it's own body temp. It's either sweaty or shivering, but the Bucas seems to keep her just right. |

I like Bucas rugs - I have the Smartex Rain (x3 so one for each neddy  ) plus the Irish turnout and they fit really well on lightweight horses, although they do a big neck version for chunkier types. They also last really well.
I also have a Horseware Rambo Duo and I like that rug too. The liners don't move but I have found that I can't use the outer without a liner because the surcingles don't go short enough even though I have sewn them shorter. So I have a 100g liner so that I can use it as a MW rug and it comes with a 300g liner (the outer is 100g) making a HW.
Premier Equine was a real disappointment as it was cut wrong for my horses (suits chunky types) plus it wasn't very waterproof. Many people are really happy with them though, so I was possibly unlucky. |
