Not an arab but last night I realilsed my connemara mare may be in foal! I bought her in February with very little history, she's been getting fat but I put it down to too much grass, but the belly seems to have dropped now and she is starting to bag up!! Of course I have no idea when she will be due, can a vet give an accurate time scale this far along?

A rectal exam could tell if the foal is aligned ready for birth giving a more accurate timescale. |

hi most likely she will be as a lot I mean a lot of people here in Ireland turn everything out together....I was once asked why I just didn't turn my pony stallion out with the others???? well seeing as ones his mother and the others are geldings,didnt think that it would be a good idea! needless to say I didn't and would never do that... but some still don't see why they cant all be "chucked out " together. and they are still doing it  atleast she has you as an owner who will make sure they get the best start.all the best look forward to the pics |

I think she was on Horsemart, bought her in February. They probably didn't know, it was a dealer who had her in as a job lot from Ireland. She wasn't what they wanted, they had a contact there who was supposed to be buying riding ponies but one of their passports wasn't in order so he put my connie on the lorry instead! They didn't deal with unbacked horses so just sold her on quickly. But I'm hoping to try and find the owner before that from her passport and see if I can get anymore information. Disappointed as she was booked in to be graded on 21st July which we'll have to miss now. She was very green when we got her but have been lunging and everything, will be putting off backing her for a good while now! |

I'm happy for your mare that you are now her owner.....but talk about irresponsible selling! They didn't bother to tell you she may be in foal? Did you buy her off a website like adhorse or something that I may have seen? I only ask because I was looking for a connie for my friend and may have seen her ad.
I hope she has a lovely foal for you. :) |

Thanks, my estimate was 3 weeks so that fits with what you've said!! Luckily we've had a few before. The only reason I would have the vet do a rectal is to get an accurate due date but I suspect this won't be possible this far along? |

If she is starting to bag up and her belly has dropped.....she is probably most likely to foal between two and five weeks from now. Could go a little longer...but most certainly need to keep an eye on her, from now on. It may also pay to watch her when quiet, to see if foal kicking, which should be easily observed at this stage and confirm your suspicion she is pregnant. Vet exam per rectal, if you need positive proof.
