Yo was told today by feed store they will no longer be able to provide hay in 2/3 weeks. She never got to make any haylage last year as contractors were elsewhere during the couple of weeks we got dry. We had been using the year before's stuff until January. We got a whole load of new liveries so went through it much quicker than anticipated.
Luckily she was sensible and kept a few incase a situation like this arose. Hoping there is enough to see us through until horses are out 24/7.
Grass is growing but very slowly. Last few days have been torrential rain. We need some dry days and heat!
Nowhere in the area has hay/haylage. Feed store is even struggling to get Just Grass delivered. They ordered 40 and only 20 came as they are being rationed. |

I am scared. The sheep have needed all the reserves this year. I won't have any haylage in two weeks, don't know where the next lot is coming from. |

Seems to be ok here. We had to go to a different farmer for our last lot a week ago but she had loads and she was a livery yard. Paying £3.50 for very nice hay. But this weekend my mare and the shetland have been turned out for the summer loads of grass has come through and we only have two horses and shetland at yard. Oh the joy of getting the stable cleaned right out. |

Have managed to find a farm with haylage left to sell round corner from where I used to live..phew **wipes brow*. Quite expensive but beggars cant be choosy right now and its a weight off our shoulders. |

Mine are starting to turn their noses up at hay, so am able to cut down. I should make it through to June on what I've got. We haven't had any problems getting hay but we all use the small bales |

Plenty here, my suppliers have run out but I haven't had a problem finding some more and a lot cheaper so I am well pleased!

The fields are greening up but we are far from stopping feeding hay, the ones that are out 24/7 are still getting through a net each overnight - and that is 2 horses on 5 acres. Could be another month before the fields are self-supporting so its lucky we held back from selling too much this year. |

Grass is definitely starting to grow, but my two are still hanging around the hay feeder. They are out 24/7 now with access to their stables, only shut them in when the weather is really wet. We have bought extra hay this spring and have got to the last few bales now, so really cutting down on the amount I've been putting out. They also get 2 large fibre filled bucket feeds a day...
Buzz has developed wind, so obviously the amount of grass consumed is increasing |

And how heavy the barrow is... full of nice wet poo!!!
We have no storage so can only buy 1 big square bale at a time, luckily they have never run out....
Ours definitely slower to come when we call them, except when its blowing a gale... |

I have two suppliers and both have said they have plenty left to supply us its good price hay too, mine are still in at night but the grass is growing. |

I keep my eye on my Farmers haylage 'stash' as I ride by. Still plenty left, which is a surprise really because its a very good price, particularly for the area.
I'm still feeding on winter system. By this time of year they would normally look at haylage with disgust and go off to graze.
The grass is growing thou, my 'grassometer' (Wilz) is showing positive signs. I can grade the grass by the sound of one of her poos landing. |

About 3 weeks left before we'll have nothing, but yard owner has told us the horses can start going out at night at the weekend [wind and rain dependant] but the grass hasn't started growing yet. So 24/7 turn out isn't going to help in the slightest.
I'm buying small bales in from Peterborough... Bedfordshire has NOTHING to offer!! Panic ensues shortly as around 40 horse owners fight among themselves for the best hay... Bring it on lol

I've got about 4 more weeks' worth left. Normally my 2 would be living out by now (last year they were out at the beginning of April), but with the snow, then rain and gales, they're still coming in at night. The grass isn't growing yet either. I'm just trying to spin the last of my hay out until the weather gets better.

Ive had to buy small bales instead of large for both hay and haylage (EXPENSIVE!!!) but at leat Ive a good couple of months stored now. Grass must come through by then surely, even in not so sunny Scotland! |
