I was googling something earlier today and came across these old pics of Shahzada. I know very little about breeding and lines but I do like looking, especially at the old horses. I learned today (from AllBreeds) that Shahzada was very influencial in Australian bloodlines.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/shahzada

The thing that struck me was the length of his legs. It says on AllBreeds that he was 15hh but he looks taller than that. And so fit and strong.

Have got an old book on Arabs and there is apicture of him and Robin I guess somewhere on the South Downs and also passing through a village. Just checked and the book is The Versatile Arabian by Rosemary Archer. The picture is of the 1920 Test at Lewes.

Thanks Callisto. What a horse! How lovely to see him on film too, wish it was a bit longer.

More from another old thread of Rozyrider's (poster based in Australia)

Shahzada born 1913 at Mr HC Stephen's stud, England. Mootrub purchased by General John Hills India - he won races in India. Shahzada was imported to Aus. by Mr AE Grace. Shahzada was a most influential sire here, particularly in endurance pedigrees. The Shahzada Memorial Endurance Ride is held here annually, in his name.He excelled at the Sydney Royal, winning champion stallion each year from 1926 to 1933, 1934 & 1937 his son Sirdar (from Nejdhmieh IMp) won, 1936 and 1940 his son Hadji (from Miriam imp) won. And that continued for some years with his grand progeny... Shahzada certainly left a great legacy in Aus.

Those legs were tough ones - Arabian stallion Shahzada (GB) foaled in 1913, winner of two 300 mile endurance races carrying 13½ stone. Imported to Australia in 1925 and was the Champion Arab Stallion at Sydney Royal Show for 8 successive years.

You can see him on film if you follow the link on this thread
http://www.arabianlines.com/forum1/topic_new.asp?TOPIC_ID=44456&

The AHS Endurance Test was held 3 times in the 1920's

1920 Shahzada won it and Robin was second
1921 the mare Belka won it (ridden by H V Musgrave Clark) and Shahzada was second (both grey)
1922 Shahzada won it again (don't know who was runner up)

The AHS didn't hold any more Endurance Races until the 1960's.

I bet a gallop on him was something else. In fact I get mild butterflies just thinking about it!

He does look like a giant, perhaps his groom was an aspiring jockey! What a boy ..legs all the way up to his bum!
