Posted - 17 Feb 2013 : 10:32:01 PM Went to Poolsbrook Country Park in Derbyshire yesterday to meet up with some friends for a ride. We past a man riding a lovely red and white PBA. He was hatless and looked to be wearing ordinary shoes - I'm reading a book by Henry Blake at the moment and he looked as though he'd ridden out of my book! His horse was gorgeous and I asked what percentage he/she was - half Polish and half warmblood. It was just a youngster and a bit agog at everything that was going on, but very well behaved.
I thought it was a lovely cross for someone like my OH, who is too big and heavy for an Arab - it was very beautiful but just a bit bigger and sturdier than an Arab. Yum! |

Posted - 20 Feb 2013 : 7:34:43 PM It could be Alvar has a double dose then..he really is unflappable.. my friend was quite novice when she got him as a 5 yr old and other friends imgained a young Perdy (my Arab) and thought it was going to be a case of green on green. I went with her and told her she'd be mad not to buy him, he was so chilled! As a 6 yr old he took her 12 yr old granddaughter round 1.2m x country steady and safe, like a veteran bless him! If thats from his Polish mummy I want one! |

Posted - 20 Feb 2013 : 7:05:05 PM Suzi Q .... your friends horse might have its nice temperament from the Polish Arab, still haven't meet one that wasn't safe and gentle. |

Posted - 20 Feb 2013 : 6:34:00 PM abcoboy no wonder you are excited!! I'm sure it will be a stunning foal!
I have a swedish friend with an IDx Arab(polish lines)he is a super ridden horse and turns his hoof to most things, she is quite a highly strung rider so its a really good thing that Alvar has the nice steady temperament of the ID but is much more refined and only 15.2hh so not to much for his tiny rider! |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 8:57:16 PM It's a cross I've done as well. KWPN x pba/riding pony. I have 2 full siblings so far and a 3rd on the way!
this is the 2nd sibling, photo taken as a yearling. He's now a 3 year old and around 16hh so took his size from his KWPN dam rather than his PBA/riding pony sire Even my vet who is very much a TB fan (used to be Newmarket based) is very taken with this cross. |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 8:28:40 PM Well, I didn't realise there were so many about! We didn't come across any large horses with Arab blood when we were looking for OH - is it a case of when you've got one you don't let it go, I wonder.
Lovely horses sab2 and nn, thanks for the pics. I'd love to see more pics if anyone has any? |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 8:10:41 PM Trakehners do have a lot of Arab blood in them, so I would think Arab x Trakehner would be s sure-fire winner of a horse!

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 6:00:56 PM This is my lad.He is 25% arab, 25% TB and half Trakehner.
He is a premium stallion for the AHS.He has full pink trakehner papers as his sire Fairlyn Gemini who was AA was a graded trakehner.
His dam is from the famous "K" line. They carry a lot of arab blood.
We cover quite a lot of westphalian mares and they cross well with the arab blood.

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 3:14:12 PM One of the great things about the PBA is that there's something for everyone, from large riding horse/SJ/eventer sorts which can carry a tall man to gorgeous children's ponies, and everything else in between. |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 11:27:38 AM One of my favourite crosses, I have a Oldenburg mare looks just like yours Sab2 I have often thought of covering her with an Arab she is quite a substantial mare so would benefit from some finer blood I think, I also ride a Trakener x TB mare for someone she is a lovely horse we show her and she jumps. |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 11:27:32 AM She looks lovely, and I know what you mean. I struggle to get pictures of more than a nostril .
Lovely field.
Is it right that Trakehner have quite a bit of Arab blood anyway? |

Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 11:03:12 AM This is the older one, the photo was taken last may, she was 2yr in photo and is 3yr this year , dam is on the right eating, she likes eating bless her, its hard to get photos of the 3yr old , as soon as you appear in the field she come straight over for a cuddle then follows you round for more cuddles. |
