Posted - 03 Nov 2012 : 7:13:33 PM Okay, so here's our latest update. I realise most people would be very much faster at getting this far, but hours of effort have resulted in Esme and me walking independently around a sand school. Don't ask for trot because we don't have trot yet under saddle, but I feel it is coming.
Of course, nothing in this video would suggest the horse CAN trot. She starts off with her Annoyed Camel look (this is because I got on her, and mounting is not my forte with this particular saddle and stirrup set up! I do use a plastic block, but even so I am less than elegant!). She then proceeds to behave as though she is working for the RDA, which suits me fine.
It was very windy today and COLD and there were people occasionally shooting in the woods so I was happy she did this well! |

Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 4:06:17 PM Lovely - she looks so relaxed as you're not putting any pressure on her; you'd never believe she was sold as a confirmed rearer!

Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 4:00:35 PM Thank you all very very much! I'm doing my best with her and I know she is trying her hardest. Because of where I live we can't really get to the bridleways safely (yet), though I may walk her out in hand and let her graze on the green where the cars can't get us :) |

Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 09:01:20 AM Whoop whoo! I'm impressed, you have obviously been doing lots of work together and it shows. Doubly impressed that you rode in wind with shooting, I'm not that brave. Looks and sounds as if you are progressing at just the right pace for you both. |

Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 08:54:06 AM Well done, look how far you have come in just a few weeks!!! Just one thing, you seem to have been stuck dum, try to talk to her and encourage her with your voice .
Well done again. |

Posted - 03 Nov 2012 : 10:14:57 PM Of course she can trot, and when you are both ready she will do - you are just working up to it, and it will come naturally. Took three years for Harley to cope with the idea that he could canter with someone on his back |
